XXXX hat uns immer wieder gesagt dass eine Portierung von der Kauf von mehr Lizenzen abhängt.
This is from a duscussion on workstation replacement and the number of licences required.
Does "Portierung" here mean "porting" as in the availability of ports on a server, or could it have another meaning?
Anybody know?
Many thanks

More context would help, but porting can mean the recreation of a piece of software under an operating system that's different from the one it was originally written for.

porting {transferring} the software to a new machine
From your context, it sounds as if the company wants to move the XXXX software from an older machine to a new machine. However, XXXX will NOT allow you to do this. Rather, they want you to buy a new license.
Rather short-sighted of them, I would think.
