neutral  Roman Bardachev: yeah, except that a spyware typically doesn't undermine your operating system, it only gathers user information, whereas a "программная закладка" will eventually do a lot of tangible harm

  -> It regularly crashed my IE until I cleaned out all spyware cookies with Spyware Doctor.But malware is definitely more appropriate.
