preliminary enquiry Explanation: As I understand it the judge carries out the preliminary enquiry in Spain - unlike in the UK - which is pre-trial period of examination in criminal law. Although ther term inquiry is preferred in British English for a formal inquiry - opsi shows enquiry as well. Preliminary inquiry is closely related to property law.
