Danish term

mange danskeres eje

Danish to English Bus/Financial Human Resources Stress management
Dette er en af de mest anvendelige bøger, der er skrevet om stress. Det er mit håb at den må blive mange danskeres eje!

Discussion

Mette Melchior Jun 24, 2011:
Yes, it is just a phrase to say that that the writer hopes that many people will buy it. If the translation will be used to promote the book in another country, it might be a good idea to change the reference to Danes to something else. I don't think people from other countries would care much about how many Danes have it ;-)

Isn't this just "buy it", or have I missed something?

I hope many Danes/readers will take its message to heart

The expression ´eje´ sometimes has an undertone of being committed to something or getting involved, as well as the literal meaning here.

As Mette suggests, unless the text refers specifically to Danish workplace culture and attitudes to stress, in a translation it might be an idea to translate the word Danes freely or localise in some way.

neutral Christine Andersen : I think this is exaggerating somewhat - even if the book does prove popular!
