Tech/Engineering / heat pumps
Dutch term or phrase: samenbouwen
In a description of a tour of production facilities:

"[bedrijf] richt zich met name op de assemblage en het **samenbouwen** van de warmtepompen."

Is this simply 'subassembly' as Kluwer suggests? Confirmation would be appreaciated.

leave out
Explanation:
As I read it, you would be justified in leaving it out altogether, as 'de assemblage' et 'het samenbouwen' are one and the same thing.

subassembly

Explanation:
The word isn't in the Dutch van Dale, might be a word from the South of Holland/Belgium. But from the context I would go for subassembly. Might be a derivative of "samenstellen" .

you could also opt for \"compound\", \"put together\" or anything like that, to avoid the assemble thingy twice in the same sentence.

assemble

Explanation:
zou ik zeggen

dikke vandalen:
samenbouwen:
bouwend samenvoegen
uit onderdelen in elkaar zetten

met andere woorden: assembleren, monteren

Van dale N-E:
monteren (in elkaar zetten) = assemble, fix, rig (up)

voor Jacqueline:
daar heb je op zich wel gelijk in, maar samenbouwen klinkt mij bekend in de oren en betekent gewoon assembleren / monteren. Ik denk dat de schrijver gewoon kwistig is geweest met woorden en eigenlijk twee keer bijna hetzelfde bedoelt. Als je jouw vertaling gebruikt, krijg je \"on the assembly and subassembly of (the) heat pumps\". dat lijkt me ook niets. Volgens mij moeten we het vertalen met één keer assemble: \"on the assembly of (the) heat pumps\".

Kluwer laat trouwens allebei de mogelijkhedne open:
samenbouwen = assemble
samenbouw van onderdelen = assembly of parts; subassembly
