Un "Yee Sang", plat traditionnel servi durant toute la période du nouvel an chinois en Malaisie, il symbolise la prospérité. Riche en couleurs il se compose de carotte, choux, radis, et autres légumes râpés et généralement de saumon, mais on peut en trouver à partir d'autres poissons consommés crus. Le Yee Sang est aussi accompagné d'un assortiment de sauces et parfois de condiments. Chaque aliment est censé avoir une signification particulière. La tradition veut que tout le monde autour de la table se lève et mélange les ingrédients en les levant à l'aide de baguettes aussi haut que possible, tout en criant (mais ce n'est pas une obligation) ses bons voeux de prospérité, d'abondance, de santé et tout ce qu'il est propice de souhaiter en ce premier jour de l'année.
