German term

Streckenbuchung

German to English Marketing Advertising / Public Relations media contract
In a German contract for the supply of media (i.e. advertising and promotional) services.

This particular clause deals with what the contract calls "nicht-klassische Medieneinsat-konzepte"

"Sonderbuchungen, die durch die Abnahme von **Streckenbuchungen** durch LEISTUNGSERBRINGER ermöglicht werden"

This is an item in a list of services and unfortunately is not part of a sentence. Other items in the list are things like:
Viral marketing
Online/offline marketing
Kreation
In game advertising
kreative Konzepte

Discussion

gangels (X) Nov 26, 2015:
I'd say Special bookings facilitated by the acceptance of block bookings through service providers.

That is the straightforward translation.

Nicht-klassisch I'd call "unconventional"
philgoddard Nov 18, 2015:
I think it's explained on page 17 here: http://exploredoc.com/doc/5258399/bewegtbild-schlägt-print

If I understand it correctly, it's a commercial forming part of a short break of two or three ads on a particular theme (eg cars during Top Gear), and therefore having greater impact. This is conditional on also buying a larger block of ads in traditional longer slots.
Presumably the Leistungserbringer are ad agencies or media buyers.
philgoddard Nov 18, 2015:
It's defined here as follows:
"Ein Vertrag über die Veröffentlichung mehrerer Anzeigen (Streckenbuchung), kann unter Beachtung der dem Werbetreibenden gemäß Preisliste gewährenden Rabatt, in Absprache der jeweiligen Erscheinungstermine, auf Abruf des Auftraggebers erfolgen" - so it appears to mean something like "block/multi-ad bookings".
However, I think there may be more to it than that, and I'm interested in what the whole sentence means. Who are the "Leistungserbringer", why do their "Streckenbuchungen" enable "Sonderbuchungen", and why is this "nicht-klassisch"?

continuous booking

It means you book an ad for a series of runs, say 2 months, or weekly for a newspaper.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Julia Burgess : This does stress that advertising space is booked in more than one edition (i.e. one edition/issue after another), which is good.

series booking

Stresses that the booking is for consecutive publications (Strecken = stretch), i.e. a series of bookings
Example sentence:

9.2 If an Advertiser cancels the balance of a contract ... they relinquish any right to any series discount to which they were previously entitled

Discounts are available for series bookings

Peer comment(s):

agree Ian Kahn : it may be worth noting in the TV market, advertising is bought in terms of "upfront", which are the longer, contractual, often discounted rates booked in advance and "scatter", ads booekd short notice and at a higher price.

block booking

Often used for booking hotel space (rooms or nights) or theatre seats, but apparently also used in advertising.

NB "block" does not necessarily = "Strecken", since a block of bookings doesn't have to be used consecutively.
Example sentence:

Discounts available for block booking

Block-booking discounts available
