English term
HOMECOMING versus PROM
English to Italian
Social Sciences
General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
(secondary) school events
Hi All!
I know the rough differences between these two terms, like:
"At my school, prom is a lot more formal than homecoming. To homecoming, most girls do their own hair and makeup and wear short dresses, while at prom they get their hair, nails and makeup done and wear long dresses. Homecoming is in the school gym while prom is held at a nicer area, and tickets are a lot more expensive. At prom, they have more activities going on besides dancing, such as karaoke and caricature drawings. This year, I had more fun at homecoming because a lot more people go since it is not for juniors and seniors only. Also, prom is more of a you have to have a date dance, while at homecoming, a lot of people just split tickets with friends".
I am not sure about the two translation, though: BALLO DELLA SCUOLA, BALLO DI FINE ANNO, BALLO DI GALA...which is which?
Thank You very much in advance!
Daniela

Però il risultato, secondo me, sarebbe sbilanciato.

Note from asker:

Prom vs. Homecoming
"In the United States, ... prom (short for promenade)[1] is a formal (black tie) dance or gathering of high school students. This event is typically held near the end of the senior year.."
"Homecoming is the tradition of welcoming back alumni of a school..The Homecoming Dance—usually the culminating event of the week (for high schools)—is a formal or informal event, either at the school or an off-campus location. The venue is decorated, and either a disc jockey or band is hired to play music. In many ways, it is a fall prom."

Thank You , Arabella...any clue about how to translate the two terms? |
