We chose for natural gas vehicles for three reasons mainly:
1.The first is sustainability, as we were very consciously looking for alternative fuel with the lower impact on the environment and diesel.
I might be just very tired - but I simply don't get the meaning of that "and diesel". Do you think it's a mistake/something is missing? Does it make any sense to you?

"... with a lower impact on the environment THAN diesel."
This does also sound like very non-native EN, with things like "we chose for..." — it may help you to consider which country this comes from, if you have that information?
