English to Portuguese Medical IT (Information Technology) It appears to be a software add-on
I am translating a manual for a medical equipment and the term "software dog" came up. There is not much context, but the sentences are the following:

"If using software dog, you must obtain License first."
"When [product name] starts, you must plug in the USB Dongle or software dog."

At some point, the text also mentions "driver dog", so I do not believe it is a typo.

I checked the PDF and it does not seem to be a typo. It appears a few times in the document. And it is also listed in the TB they sent me, although it does not seem to have been carefully curated. It seems they just added all terms they could gather from previous translations. I will check back with the client to see what this is about after all.

Yes, typo This is most likely a typo caused by thhe OCR conversion of a PDF document into a DOCx. You have to see the original PDF to find out what it is.
Isn't it, by any chance, DOG in capital letters instead of dog? If it's an acronym, it may be easier to find out. It could be DOS, for example.

Probably a typo. I did not find any reference. Meanwhile, 'dongle' is widely used.

It's a mistranslation from Chinese, 軟件狗, which literally means 軟件(software)狗(dog).
