English term

inoculi

English to Japanese Medical Medical (general)
We have observed that inoculi initially containing 100000 bacteria per cm3 show a considerable decrease in bacterial concentration with time, when in contact with the treated surfaces. Bacterial death was also observed in minimal medium, thus indicating that cell division is not needed for the killing effect.

Although plural version of "inoculum" is "inocula", from the context, I believe this term "inoculi" is used as a plural version here.
Peer comment(s):

agree Yuriko Daikoku : I think so too. "-li " immediately brings a impression of plural, and also it fits in the context. Could it be a confusion with Italian prural? Although noun ending with -a usually becomes -e, howecer noun with -o bebomes -i

Naruhodo! That's a very good point - I didn't even think it could be an Italian Plural. Thank you.

Thank you.
agree Will Matter : actually, it's a Latin plural but the relationship to Italian is clear since Latin is the "mother" of Italian.
