English term or phrase: iambic pentameter
This is the most common regular rhythm of English poetry written in the 19th century. I would like to know what an iambic pentameter is called in German, please.

jambisches Pentameter
Explanation:
Surprising, isn't it?! It's all the same, and all Greek to me. During high school, out teachers pestered us with stuff like this (at the school I attended, Greek was mandatory). You see, it's not only the English poets that used it; the actual perpetrators were the Greeks - and it wasn't Alexis Zorbas!

Good luck!

Thankyou, Volkmar! I was at one time one of those teachers who pestered their students with such stuff, but that was in Scotland.

I take it from the comment added to your first answer by someone else that the gender of "Pentameter" in German depends on which part of Germany you come from. I am by now used to the fact that not all German words have a fixed gender.

Thanks for answering so quickly, while I was still online!

jambische_r_ Pentameter, sorry, typo!

Explanation:
Sorry, I pulled the trigger too fast and didn't realize my typing error. Incidentally, just as a titbit: pentameter in German is
'fünffüßiger Vers' (but everybody says Pentameter).

Good luck!
