French term

LSPV

French to English Science Biology (-tech,-chem,micro-) Avian Vaccine
"Le certificat d'analyse du LSPV rend compte des controles déjà effectués et des differents dates de realisation des essais;" and
"Le sérum monospécifique utilisé pour les contrôles de pureté du LSPV faits in vitro, devra être mis en conformité avec l’annexe C des exigences aviaires."
The context is a file studying analytical conformity of a vaccine after a change in EEC directive for veterinary immunologicals. Here we are talking about starting materials of biological origin not in the pharmacopoeia.

Discussion

Dr Sue Levy (X) Feb 7, 2006:
Confirms my first thought that it was the thing being tested. I don't know if these are commonly used acronyms in the pharma industry or created for the purposes of your document. Certainly nothing on the web.
Michael Lotz Feb 7, 2006:
Thank you for the follow-up. I felt that the additional information would be necessary. Bonne soire !
Karen Tkaczyk (asker) Feb 7, 2006:
Apology. I found the answer in the text. I apologise. There are the answers, pages 81 and 82. That's what I get for not reading the whole text thoroughly before starting the job.
Lot de Semence Primaire de Virus
Lot de Semence de Travail de Virus
So I will translate Primary Viral Seed Batch and Working Viral Seed Batch, I imagine, unless I learn even more once I finally get down to those pages in detail. You learn something new every day, as they say.

LSP is also the acronym for "Laboratoire de santé publique" in French.

And could V not be vétérinaire?
Note from asker:
Hello. I am following you and Michel and see logic to both suggestions. Now I have another spanner to add to the works. The text also cites LSTV later on (I have about 100 pages). I have searched online and not found anything that makes sense for LSTV. Is that another French lab? Have either of you any ideas? I could put it up as a seperate question but I was assuming once I got the first the second would make sense. Thank you.
I am thinking too hard to see the obvious...thank you, but I still don't know what to do about the T in LSTV. Note to client I think.

Public Health Laboratory for Monitoring/Surveillance (LSPV)

LSPV= laboratoire de santé publique des vigies
system of monitoring or surveillance for infectious diseases which serve as official reference labs.
Seems to fit the vaccine context.

See note in Sue's answer, if you have a moment.
Peer comment(s):

agree Dr Sue Levy (X) : I thought it must be something like that (see my note added at 2 hrs) but couldn't for the life of me find what the V was for!
