prévissage

Homework / test French to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering assembly instructions
I am currently having problems with the above phrase taken from some automobile assembly instructions. I think this might relate to the manual tightening of the screws but any suggestions would be welcomed :-) Thanks in advance.

preliminary screwing

or preliminary tightening of the screws
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Avoid 'screwing' here, but 'tightening' is OK; I would feel tempted to say 'fit screws and hand-tighten', but that may be reading too much into it...

French term (edited): prvissage

manual tightening

I also thought that prévissage might pre-tightening, but found this reference which defines it as : manual tightening - which seems closer to your text
