German term

Bei Sammelempf.-Bek.

German to English Law/Patents Law (general)
What does this phrase mean? It appears at the bottom of a legal letter. I assume it has something to do with confirming receipt.

Discussion

John Speese (asker) Feb 21, 2008:
Yes, it's in a list:
Einschreiben (Zustellung) Registered mail (notification)
BEI SAMMELEMPF.-BEK. ?
Niederlegung im Abholfach des Empfaengers Deposited in addressee's box

and you are supposed to check the one that applies.

Could you give us a little more context? Are there any other abbreviations before or after that (even if you know what they mean)? Thanks

collective acknowledgement of receipt

Sammelempfangsbekenntnis

which should be written: Sammel-Empfangsbekenntnis
meaning: collective acknowledgement of receipt ( at least that's how I would interpret it - not a common term at all, probably Swiss?)

This is how I got there:

I googled [post +einschreiben+ abholfach} because I suspected it must have something to do with receipt of delivery of court documents

I found:
Die Zustellung gegen Empfangsbekenntnis
http://www.rws-verlag.de/volltext/brat492b.htm

"Empfangsbekenntnis" is acknowledgement of receipt
www.juraforum.de/urteile/urteil/eug-urteil-vom-29-05-1991-a...

And after all that seraching I found the term in our very own Proz.com glossary!!!

Sammelempfangsbekenntnis
