The following types of high school are provided at the Oberstufenzentrum (OSOS)

General Education School (Realschule)

In General Education School students acquire a good general education and a solid base for a later vocational apprenticeship. Emphasis is put on promoting motivation to study as well as on supporting students to build-up self-esteem through knowledge. Constant practicing provides an excellent foundation of the subjects studied. Fine-tuning of the teaching tempo in respect to the individual studying pace of each student is an important issue.

After finishing General Education School most students go on to serve a professional two to three year apprenticeship in trade or industry.

Secondary School (Sekundarschule)

Secondary School is the intermediate level of the three types of high school education. It provides a broad general education as well as the qualification for a challenging professional training. Students have to be eager to learn, must have mental agility and a solid ability in abstract thinking.

Secondary School graduates who choose to further their studies can attend a three year college after passing an admissions exam, or, they go on to serve a professional two to four year apprenticeship in trade or industry, or in commercial business.

District School (Bezirksschule)

District School is the most demanding level of high school education. It provides a broad, in-depth general education as well as the qualification for a challenging professional training.

Students have to be eager to learn, must have mental agility and a profound ability in abstract thinking. District School is as well a preparation for schools at a higher level. Graduates passing a final exam with the requested average grade are admitted either to a three or four year college.

Small Classes (Kleinklasse)

Small Classes are meant for students who cannot keep up with the teaching in normal size classes. Specially trained teachers cultivate each student according to his or her ability in classes with a maximum of 12 students. Students can be promoted to normal classes at any time if and when they become able to keep up with lessons in the normal classes again.

Optional Year (Werkjahr)

Students who cannot move up to their 4th year of General Education School or the School for Choice of Career have the opportunity to attend the Optional Year.

The previous learning matter is studied in further depth, significantly improving their chances in finding an apprenticeship or a training opportunity for a semi-skilled job.

Combination Year (Kombijahr)

The newly introduced \"Combination Year\" is an optional final school year for students of Small Classes. It provides a guided link for the transfer from school to vocational training at the workplace. The students work three days per week and attend two days of school per week.

Schooling supports and promotes job-related skills. Therefore, teachers keep in close contact with the responsible bodies at the workplace with frequent visits.
