Italian term

formella terminale

Italian to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting religious objects
"La croce astile presenta sul recto al centro il Crocifisso, mentre, sulle ***formelle terminali dei bracci, in alto il Padre Eterno, in basso la Maddalena, a sinistra l' Addolorata, a destra San Giovanni Evangelista."

I imagine what the text is referring to is what the link below refers to as "angle irons", which I'm not entirely convinced by. Any help greatly appreciated.

To date, scholars' views of the program of the Cloisters cross have been inconclusive, primarily because the base terminal is lost. Prevailing opinion also rejects the Cloisters plaque as part of the missing terminal. Through a detailed technical, stylistic, and iconographic analysis, this paper argues that the plaque once formed the front face of the original base terminal, and that it represents Christ's "prophesy" and his condemnation by Caiaphas, which, at the beginning of the Passion cycle, are central to the Crucifixion, the Ascension, the Second Coming and to the entire program of the cross.
