Japanese term

応接をいただく

Japanese to English Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
The sentence is 代表団には参加されなかったが,XX先生やYY氏からも応接をいただいた.
These 2 people are being mentioned as not participating in a group that went to a conference. XX先生 I discovered co-authored an article that was presented at that conference, but I find no mention of YY氏 anywhere. The only dictionary definition of応接 that I find is 'reception,' but I don't think that is correct in this context. I also found this:
...先生が、万感を 込めて贈ってくれた指針の一つです。 以来、たくさんの方々からの応接をいただき、 各地の公共の場等へ石彫刻モニュメントを制作 させていただいております。 at http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/‾tq3m-asg/gally.html which makes me think it might be something like 'receive advice.'
Any help would be appreciated.

Suspected typo: to receive gracious support/assistance = 応援をいただく

As a native Japanese speaker, I strongly suspect that both examples are typos - 応接, as you mentioned, is a rather narrowly defined word which means the physical act of meeting a guest and does not make much sense in either sentence. I suspect that the typist mistakenly selected 応接 instead of 応援 as candidates(変換候補) came up as おう was entered - both start with the same letter and the second letters have an identical へん and similar つくり (especially when viewed in small font). I say this because I often make the same mistake.
