At M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, we call intensive care "cuidado intensivo," not "terapia intensiva."

Intensive therapy means just that, a therapy regimen that is intensive. If the therapy is medical (drug-based), then "intensive" usually means "high-dose." In fact, it is often referred to as "dose-intensive therapy." You may want ot look at the following citation:

"intensive care" means "critical care" (ie. hospital care for the most seriously ill utilizing advanced technology and specially trained personnel). "Terapia intensiva" can be part of "intensive care", but doesn't necessarily mean "intensive care".
