Source text - Swedish Dorothy Clough (1930-) växte upp i Storbritannien och fick sin utbildning på Edinburgh College of Art i Skottland 1948-53. Med hjälp av ett ett resestipendium kom hon till Sverige 1954 och fick praktiktjänst på Gefle Porslinsfabrik i centrala Sverige. Dorothy anställdes som formgivare på fabriken året efter och stannade fram till 1957. Därefter arbetade hon mest som frilansande keramiker och formgivare åt Gefle och Upsala-Ekeby.
Dorothy är mest känd för sina skulpturala figuriner, och särskilt hennes djur och kvinnofigurer är omtyckta. Hon gjorde ett 50-tal olika figuriner, men dekorerade också serviser och gjorde reliefer och väggplattor. Dorothys föremål tillverkade i Sverige signerades "D.C", "Dorothy Clough" eller bara "CLOUGH".
Translation - English Dorothy Clough (1930-) grew up in the United Kingdom, receiving her education at Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland from 1948-53. With the help of a travel scholarship, she moved to Sweden in 1954, receiving an internship at the Gefle Porcelain Factory in the central Sweden city of Upsala. Dorothy was hired as a designer at the factory the following year and stayed on until 1957. After leaving her role at the factory, Dorothy continued her work as a freelance ceramic artist and designer for the Gefle and Upsala-Ekeby studio.
Dorothy is best known for her playful sculptural figurines, particularly her depictions of animal and female figures. Her body of work includes some 50 different figurines, as well as hand-painted tableware, hand-made reliefs, and wall tiles. The work that Dorothy completed in Sweden was signed “C,” "Dorothy Clough,” or simply “CLOUGH.”
