Looking for a Linguistic Validation Consultant for Spanish for Puerto Rico

ICON Language Services is an internal translation group within ICON plc (a Clinical Research Organization). We are currently seeking to expand our database of experienced and reliable translators with medical and clinical experience.

We have a special interest in advancing the worldwide use of patient-reported and clinical assessments for appropriate cross-cultural use and interpretation. Our main activities consist in the linguistic validation of Patient Reported Outcome (PRO) instruments (medical questionnaires).

We are looking for experienced English into Spanish (Puerto Rican) freelance clinical translators and reviewers for clinical research documentation for linguistic validation projects.

The aim of the linguistic validation is to produce a translated version in a foreign language which is conceptually equivalent to the original English version, as well as clear and easy to understand. The translated instrument should be understood by most respondents in a selected population and should maintain a reading and comprehension level that will be accessible by most respondents, even of a low education level.

All translations are carried out in the target country, to ensure the use of everyday language in the translations. After many years of proven experience in multinational projects, collaborating with more than 600 consultants throughout the world, we have developed a unique, well-established expertise in the field.

We are currently looking for translators (native speaker of Spanish and based in Puerto Rico) who would be interested in collaborating with us as a local consultant for linguistic validation projects.

This collaboration is a punctual project-based activity, and would consist in coordinating linguistic validation projects, including reviewing Spanish patient questionnaires. Projects may also include recruiting and interviewing a small panel of Spanish native speakers (healthy subjects or patients) aiming at making sure the translation is clear and easy to understand (linguistic comprehension test).

This work entails that the consultant/local project manager be able to explain his/her translation decisions (discussions with project manager) and make sure that the translations are conceptually faithful to the original instrument and easy to understand.

Minimum requirements:
• Formal higher education in translation (recognized degree)
• OR equivalent qualification in any other subject area AND a minimum of two years of documented translation experience
• OR at least five years of documented professional experience in translating

Preferred qualifications:
• Have prior experience translating clinical documentation and terms (preferably patient-facing and site-facing materials: Informed Consent Forms, Protocols, Investigator Brochures)
• Have prior experience conducting cognitive interviews and recruiting patients.
• Have expert knowledge of medical/clinical terminology
