Il s'agit du manuel d'instruction d'un lecteur surround haut de gamme. C'est le "encoded programme material" qui me trouble. Je cale sur un équivalent acceptable pour cette expression.

"encoder" prend tout son sens car techniquement un enregistrement numérique subis bien un "codage".
Par contre il ne s'agit pas d'un programme mais d'un enregistrement.

: peut-être, mais regardez ça: http://www.zdnet.fr/produits/logiciels/multimedia/0,39049774... il s'agit bien d'un encodeur, et ils utilisent le mot "encodé" aussi!

: European broadcasters normally (because I told them to, many years ago!) use 'codage' rather than 'encodage', except in situations where it is helpful to stress the distinction wrt 'decoding' - e.g. when describing the inner functions of a codec.

Thanks, M/M! I'm glad we agree here --- the 'en-' has crept in in EN, but I think it sits much less well in FR (not least because of the pronunciation), and we DO say 'codec' and NOT 'encodec'! Though as you say, the en-/de- distinction is the main thing
