"Les parets de tancament de les naus són lleugeres; **són uns finestrals** sense contraforts, que converteixen en estructura activa les graderies per a 1.200 cantaires de les naus laterals."

I know what a finestral is, what I don't understand is how a wall can be said to be one.

"window-wall"?

That is, one with a perhaps unexpectedly or inordinately large proportion of transparent material.

When an English noblewoman back in the late 16th century built what was then a startlingly innovative country house, some wag instantly coined the rhyme: "Hardwick Hall -- more glass than wall!"

Space and time forbid me from detouring into an exegesis on the social changes that made anything less than ten-foot-deep double-rubble-filled castle walls a necessity.... but you get the idea.

Cheers,
HC
