English term or phrase: off the back of the eyeball and back to the lens
Red-eye is a problem that occurs typically on a flash photograph taken with a compact camera. It’s the result of the flash light bouncing into your subject’s eye, off the back of the eyeball (the blood-filled retina) and back to the camera lens. It’s usually worse with a child because their eyes open wider than an adult’s when it’s dark. Apart from the age of your subject, red-eye is likely to be worse the darker it is and the nearer to the camera lens the flash is.
