According to sources I found, it refers to a third part of the composition of blood- in addition to plasma and the blood cells.
I couldn't find any Hebrew term for it anywhere and would love some suggestions.

The full segment is:
"...a fraction of blood cells called buffy coat will be retained to obtain DNA in normal cells."
