'Mumbai' is also the local name of 'Bombay' which is the capital of a state in India, caled Maharashtra. It is not the capital of India. The capital of India is New Delhi. It was always known as 'mumbai' in hindi, Gujarati and other languages. 'Bombay' was the anglicized name gievn to the city by the British and was recently changed in a wave of 'going back to the roots'.
