nail file/ emory board Explanation: Sometimes, nailfile is spelled in two words, sometimes one. These should work for US English, unless the 'rund' in Nagelrundfeile is something I don't know about. see below Explanation: Ernst says Nadelfeile is a needle-point file and a Rundfeile is a round file, but you probably already knew that. DeVries says the same for Nadelfeile, and a Rundfeile is a rat-tailed file or round file. I'm not sure, but it doesn't sound like you can just put the two together. Do you know what's being filed? If we're talking about fingernails, I would go with Dierk's answer; if some specialized app is involved, more research is probably needed! HTH, Beth |

see below Explanation: Swiss pattern files: used by tool and die makers, model makers, and delicate instrument parts finishers. These files are made to closer tolerances than conventional American pattern files. The points of the Swiss pattern files are smaller, the tapers are longer, and they are available in much finer cuts. They are primarily finishing tools for removing burrs left from previous finishing operations, truing up narrow grooves, notches and keyways, cleaning out corners and smoothing small parts. For very fine work, round and square handled needle files, available in numerous cross-sectional shapes in overall lengths from 4 to 7-3/4 inches are used. Machinery |

not e to previous answer Explanation: Hit the wrong key while typing in the reference, sorry! It was from Machinery's Handbook 25th Edition, Green & Oberg. Although there are several pages of information on file characteristics and classes of files, the above round handled needle file sounds like maybe what you were looking for, based on the German word and the fact that machining operations were involved previously. There are many types of mill or saw files for sharpening saws, however, so let me know if you need more information. Regards, Beth |

round needle file Explanation: P. 210 Snap-On tool catalog The description of this set of files features needle files with varying cross-sectional shapes (round, half round, crossing, barrette, etc. etc.). The files look long and slender: 5.5 inches long. The round file is approx. 3/32 mm in diameter. We also own a smaller set of round needle files (WYPO brand) called "tip cleaners," which are designed for cleaning the inside of a gas welding tip. They are 60 mm long and there are 13 sizes, with diameters ranging from 2 mm to 0.3 mm. Snap-On tool catalog, also WYPO brand welding supplies |
