Geology
The presence of thick clay deposits in the geological sections of the fields, which become finely dispersed during drilling in the water-based muds, leads to rapid development of a natural clay suspension, increasing the content of the colloid phase in the mud and degrading drilling conditions. The dispersal rate is reduced and the mud parameters are stabilized using imported polyacryloamides. The main reagents used to treat mud when drilling for the surface casing are hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and carboxymethylcellulose (CMC); when the mud liquefies during drilling in permafrost intervals, the clay phase of the mud is enriched with bentonite.
