English to Chinese: About Fonterra - OUR HERITAGE General field: Marketing Detailed field: Food & Drink
Source text - English New Zealand’s dairy industry started in 1814 with the first cattle imported by early European settlers. By 1846, just six years after the Treaty of Waitangi was signed, the first exports began. The first dairy co-operative was created in Otago in 1871 – the first of more than 400 co-ops to be established throughout New Zealand.
Refrigeration in 1882 opened new markets to New Zealand’s agriculture industry and, as a result, substantial trade to the United Kingdom developed, with the UK becoming our largest export market until the 1970s.
Many different kinds of dairy products exported to a huge range of markets since then have changed the landscape of the industry, which eventually included major consolidation.
In 2001, Fonterra was formed to represent the interests of about 95 per cent of New Zealand’s dairy farmers – our Shareholders.
Today, we export high quality products to more than 100 countries around the globe. Fonterra is the world’s largest dairy exporter.

Chinese to English: Comparison of two accounts about fish in the Gospels General field: Other Detailed field: Religion
Translation - English Why then, did the disciples have fish when they were in a house (Luke 24), and in contrast caught no fish at all in the sea (John 21)? One thing is apparent – the Lord’s intention for them was to wait for the day of Pentecost in the city (Luke 24:49). The house was the place where they should be, hence there were some fish for them. However, not realizing that the Lord had resurrected, they instead went to the sea to fish – back to their old way of living, and consequently they had got nothing, not even a broiled fish. They left the ordained will of God, so they gained nothing. When they were in the house, although not fully satisfied, they at least had a broiled fish – something to offer to the Lord. In the light of this, we should pay attention to our own condition – where we are, all our efforts spent – are we in the will of God or not? If we follow our own interest, we will be like the disciples, working a whole night for nothing, and with nothing to eat. When we are far from the Lord there will be nothing for us at all.

Translation - English XX Special Vehicle Factory - ###-Tonne Xxx Chassis Gear Shifting Smoothness Tuning Explanation
1. Problem Description
The ###-Tonne xxx manufactured by XX Special Vehicle Factory was matched with our XX#XX#-##X# model engine and XX 12-gear tiptronic transmission. At the end of July 20## the transmission matching test was carried out, and during the test drive the driver reported that the body of the vehicle shook strongly when moving up or down the gears in automatic mode, and there was also a noticeable sudden forward during the process. The fault cause, which was found after an onsite diagnose, was that the conflict of message priorities between XXX#XX and XXX#XX which were broadcast by the transmission; This led to the failure of proper engine torque control during gear shifting .

3. Solving Process
The engineer from XX Co., Ltd. reported that due to the issue of calibration permission, the message priority cannot be changed, and thus required us to work in with finding a solution at the engine end.
The engine data was then modified with the assistance from XXX Ltd. The value of XxxXxx_xxxXXXX#XXXxxXxx_X was set to 1, making XxxXxx_xxXXX#XxxXxxXxxXx = 0 = XXXXXX_XXXXXXXXX, and thus changed the message receiving priority at the engine end, which enabled the engine to perform torque control properly. This was validated via test drive: the gear shifting smoothness was improved significantly.
The figures below show engine data collected during test drive; Figure 1 shows data before modification, and Frigure 2 shows data after modification.
Figure 1.
Figure 2.
The green line in above figures represents engine revolutions; the orange line represents internal torques; the red line represents the target valve of torque control (0Nm). It clearly shows that the internal torque could not respond to torque control as it should during gear shifting before the modification; after the modification torque control can be performed normally, and the smoothness of gear shifting had improved significantly. The problem was solved.

I was brought up in Shanghai where I witnessed its social evolution during China’s economic reform. At the age of 17 -- in 2002 -- I decided to explore the world outside my homeland and came to New Zealand to continue my studies, where I finished a 4-year Bachelor degree in Engineering.
Now employed in a full-time project management job for 4+ years, I have always kept my strong interest in linguistics and languages. It all started in 2007 when I got the chance to work as a translator for the first time. My mother tongue is Wu (aka. Shanghainese), and school used Mandarin as the language of instruction. English was introduced when I was 8 years old, and since had remained as a compulsory subject.
My thinking now uses all of the three languages, and quite often switches from one to another during the process. I started studying Spanish in 2009, and have a general interest in other languages such as Italian, Portuguese, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, and French.
In my spare time I also enjoy playing guitar, learning Spanish, practicing interpretation, outdoor adventures, such as snowboarding, ocean diving, surfing just to name a few.
If you would offer me an opportunity, I will give you a quality translation in return. Looking forward to working with you in the near future.
