Source text - English Three knocks on the bronze door with a hammer is a signal the world knows. With this act, which is done by the Pope, Christians worldwide know they will experience a special year. The doors of the first church in Rome open … and so do the doors of forgiveness for women who have had abortions or the doors to understanding to those who follow the Jewish and Islamic faiths.
What has the Church changed since past Jubilees? What is the purpose of having these special times in the Church? What inspires millions of Catholics to travel all the way to Rome?
Pope Francis was appointed after the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI, who still resides in the Vatican. The first recorded Jubilee took place in 1300. It was started by Pope Boniface VIII, who also lived alongside a former Pope. The difference is that Pope Boniface VIII did not have a cordial relationship with his predecessor like the one Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI share.

Qu’est-ce que l’Eglise a changé depuis les derniers Jubilés? Quel est l’objet de ces moments particuliers pour l’Eglise? Qu’est-ce qui pousse des millions de catholiques à effectuer le trajet vers Rome?
Le pape François a été nommé après la démission du pape Benoît XVI, qui réside toujours au Vatican. Le premier Jubilé enregistré a eu lieu en 1300. Il a été lancé à l’initiative du pape Boniface VIII, qui vivait lui aussi aux côtés d’un ancien pape. La différence est qu’à l’inverse des relations entre le pape François et le pape Benoît XVI, celles entre le pape Boniface VIII et son prédécesseur n’étaient pas cordiales.
