Technisches Gebiet
Die Erfindung betrifft ein Kühlsystem für eine Traktionsbatterie eines elektrisch angetriebenen Fahrzeugs, insbesondere eines batterieelektrischen Fahrzeugs oder eines Plug-in-Hybridfahrzeugs.
Stand der Technik
Traktionsbatterien elektrisch angetriebener Fahrzeuge umfassen üblicherweise eine Mehrzahl von Batteriezellen, die zu Batteriemodulen zusammengefasst und innerhalb eines Batteriegehäuses angeordnet sind. Während des Lade- und Entladebetriebs entsteht in den Batteriezellen Wärme, deren Menge insbesondere von der Stromstärke, dem Ladezustand und der Umgebungstemperatur abhängt.
Um eine Beeinträchtigung der Leistungsfähigkeit und Lebensdauer der Batteriezellen zu vermeiden, ist es erforderlich, die Batteriezellen innerhalb eines vorgegebenen Temperaturbereichs zu betreiben. Hierzu sind Kühlsysteme bekannt, bei denen ein flüssiges Kühlmittel durch Kühlkanäle geführt wird, die in wärmeleitendem Kontakt mit den Batteriemodulen stehen.
Bei bekannten Kühlsystemen kann jedoch eine ungleichmäßige Temperaturverteilung innerhalb der Traktionsbatterie auftreten. Insbesondere können Batteriemodule, die in Strömungsrichtung des Kühlmittels weiter stromabwärts angeordnet sind, mit bereits erwärmtem Kühlmittel beaufschlagt werden. Hierdurch können sich Temperaturunterschiede zwischen einzelnen Batteriemodulen ergeben.
Darstellung der Erfindung
Der Erfindung liegt daher die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein Kühlsystem für eine Traktionsbatterie bereitzustellen, das eine gleichmäßigere Temperierung der Batteriemodule ermöglicht und gleichzeitig mit geringem konstruktivem Aufwand realisierbar ist.
Diese Aufgabe wird durch ein Kühlsystem mit den Merkmalen des Anspruchs 1 gelöst.
Das Kühlsystem weist einen ersten Kühlmittelkanal und einen zweiten Kühlmittelkanal auf, die jeweils mit einer Mehrzahl von den Batteriemodulen zugeordneten Wärmeübertragungsabschnitten fluidisch verbunden sind. Der erste Kühlmittelkanal ist dazu eingerichtet, Kühlmittel in einer ersten Strömungsrichtung zu den Wärmeübertragungsabschnitten zu führen, während der zweite Kühlmittelkanal das Kühlmittel in einer der ersten Strömungsrichtung entgegengesetzten zweiten Strömungsrichtung führt.
Durch die entgegengesetzten Strömungsrichtungen kann erreicht werden, dass Temperaturunterschiede des Kühlmittels entlang der Längserstreckung der Traktionsbatterie zumindest teilweise ausgeglichen werden. Ein in Bezug auf den ersten Kühlmittelkanal stromabwärts angeordnetes Batteriemodul kann in Bezug auf den zweiten Kühlmittelkanal stromaufwärts angeordnet sein.
Gemäß einer Ausführungsform weist das Kühlsystem wenigstens ein steuerbares Ventil auf, mittels dessen ein Volumenstrom des Kühlmittels durch den ersten Kühlmittelkanal und/oder den zweiten Kühlmittelkanal veränderbar ist. Eine Steuereinrichtung kann dazu eingerichtet sein, das Ventil in Abhängigkeit von mittels Temperatursensoren erfassten Temperaturen einzelner Batteriemodule anzusteuern.
Hierdurch kann das Verhältnis der durch die beiden Kühlmittelkanäle geführten Kühlmittelströme an die jeweilige thermische Belastung der Traktionsbatterie angepasst werden.
Anspruch 1
1. Kühlsystem für eine Traktionsbatterie (10) eines elektrisch angetriebenen Fahrzeugs, wobei die Traktionsbatterie (10) eine Mehrzahl von Batteriemodulen (12) aufweist, mit
einem ersten Kühlmittelkanal (20),
einem zweiten Kühlmittelkanal (22), und
einer Mehrzahl von Wärmeübertragungsabschnitten (24), die jeweils einem der Batteriemodule (12) zugeordnet und mit dem ersten Kühlmittelkanal (20) und dem zweiten Kühlmittelkanal (22) fluidisch verbunden sind,
wobei der erste Kühlmittelkanal (20) dazu eingerichtet ist, ein Kühlmittel in einer ersten Strömungsrichtung entlang der Batteriemodule (12) zu führen,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass
der zweite Kühlmittelkanal (22) dazu eingerichtet ist, das Kühlmittel in einer der ersten Strömungsrichtung entgegengesetzten zweiten Strömungsrichtung entlang der Batteriemodule (12) zu führen.

The invention relates to a cooling system for a traction battery of an electric vehicle, in particular a battery electric vehicle or a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Background
Traction batteries of electric vehicles typically comprise a plurality of battery cells grouped into battery modules and arranged within a battery housing. During charging and discharging, heat is generated in the battery cells, the amount of heat depending in particular on the current, state of charge, and ambient temperature.
To prevent impairment of the performance and service life of the battery cells, the battery cells must be operated within a specified temperature range. Cooling systems are known for this purpose in which a liquid coolant is conducted through cooling channels that are in thermally conductive contact with the battery modules.
Known cooling systems, however, may exhibit an uneven temperature distribution within the traction battery. In particular, battery modules arranged farther downstream in the direction of coolant flow may be supplied with coolant that has already been heated. This may result in temperature differences among individual battery modules.
Summary of the Invention
The object of the invention is therefore to provide a cooling system for a traction battery that enables more uniform temperature control of the battery modules while requiring relatively little design complexity.
This object is achieved by a cooling system having the features of claim 1.
The cooling system comprises a first coolant channel and a second coolant channel, each of which is fluidically connected to a plurality of heat-transfer sections associated with the battery modules. The first coolant channel is configured to conduct coolant to the heat-transfer sections in a first direction of flow, while the second coolant channel conducts the coolant in a second direction of flow opposite the first direction of flow.
As a result of the opposing directions of flow, differences in coolant temperature along the longitudinal extent of the traction battery can be at least partially equalized. A battery module located downstream with respect to the first coolant channel may thus be located upstream with respect to the second coolant channel.
According to one embodiment, the cooling system comprises at least one controllable valve by means of which a volumetric flow rate of the coolant through the first coolant channel and/or the second coolant channel can be varied. A control unit may be configured to actuate the valve as a function of the temperatures of individual battery modules detected by temperature sensors.
The ratio of the coolant flow rates through the two coolant channels can thereby be adapted to the respective thermal load of the traction battery.
Claim 1
1. A cooling system for a traction battery (10) of an electric vehicle, wherein the traction battery (10) comprises a plurality of battery modules (12), the cooling system comprising:
a first coolant channel (20);
a second coolant channel (22); and
a plurality of heat-transfer sections (24), each of which is associated with one of the battery modules (12) and is fluidically connected to the first coolant channel (20) and the second coolant channel (22);
wherein the first coolant channel (20) is configured to conduct a coolant along the battery modules (12) in a first direction of flow,
characterized in that
the second coolant channel (22) is configured to conduct the coolant along the battery modules (12) in a second direction of flow opposite the first direction of flow.
