Source text - English When the Spanish conquistadores sailed for Central America in 1517, their goal was to vanquish the resident Maya civilisation. But the colonists arrived to find that much of their work had been done for them.
The Maya’s towering limestone cities – a classic feature of one of the ancient world’s most advanced societies – were already being reclaimed by the jungle.
The question of how the Maya met their end is one of history’s most enduring mysteries. The Maya people survived; they even managed to stage a long resistance to European rule. But by the time the Spanish made landfall, the political and economic power which had erected the region’s iconic pyramids, and had at one time sustained a population of some two million people, had vanished.
The first Maya site were built during the first millennium BC, and the civilisation reached its height around AD600. (In the chronology of Mesoamerica, the Maya sit between the earlier Olmec and later Aztec civilisations). Archaeologists have uncovered thousands of ancient Maya cities, most of which are spread across southern Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula, Belize and Guatemala.

Force Majeure
No Failure, omission or delay of either Party in the performance of any obligation of this Agreement shall be deemed a breach of this Agreement nor create any liability hereunder, if the failure, omission or delay shall arise from acts of God, laws, rules, regulations of orders of any governmental authority, floods, fires, explosions, earthquakes, acts of war (declared or undeclared), insurrections, sabotage, shortages of fuel, power, energy resources, and/or raw materials, or any other comparable cause beyond the reasonable control of the Party concerned.

Confidentiality
For the duration of this Agreement, the Parties shall neither disclose to Third Parties nor use for any purpose other than authorized herein any information and data relating to this Agreement, except for information that:
(a) is in the public domain at date hereof;
(b) has become of public domain, without any Party’s fault, after the date hereof;
Article 7
Term and termination of the Agreement
This Agreement shall be for a term of……from the date hereof. Upon the expiration, the Agreement shall be automatically renewed for a term of …. unless terminated by the Parties in accordance with the following provisions.

In European folklore the return of the month of May was celebrated with festivals and rituals accompanied by dancing and singing hoping to secure the fertility of the soil and abundant harvests in the future. The ceremonies held during this month revolve around the rebirth of the vegetation preceding winter. This is the busiest time of the year celebrating Pentecost, visiting sanctuaries, mountains and locations that today are not used for worship, searching for natural symbols like the first fruits, typical signs of nature’s rebirth.
THE SNAKES OF COCULLO
Cocullo (Aq)
Every year on the first Thursday of the month Cocullo becomes an international attraction for thousands of tourists who come here to participate in one of the most unusual popular festivals, the snake festival in honour of St. Domenic Abate. The festival is built on essential moments. On the 19th March the snake hunt begins. The snakes are kept in baskets until the day of the festival. In the morning of the day of the festival young men gather in the square with the snakes in their hands which will be used later on to cover the statue of the saint when it leaves the sanctuary which is dedicated to him.
The significance of this ritual is among the miracles performed by St. Domenic Abate while wandering through Abruzzo, taming nature and animals, above all snakes and wolves. Pilgrims, tourists and the inquisitive are moved by the procession and by the miracle of the harmless tamed snakes, thanks to St. Dominic. Even though the snakes used today are harmless the allegorical symbolism is powerful: the snake is the symbol of evil a symbol also used to depict the devil. With the saint's victory over evil also the participants in the ritual celebrate their freedom and victory over evil and a chance to be reborn and begin again.

Ogni anno, il primo giovedì del mese, Cocullo diventa un'attrazione internazionale per migliaia di turisti che vengono qui per partecipare a una delle feste popolari più insolite, il festival del serpente in onore di San Domenico Abate. Il festival è costruito su momenti essenziali. Il 19 marzo, inizia la caccia al serpente. I serpenti sono tenuti in delle ceste fino al giorno della festa. La mattina del giorno della festa i giovani si riuniscono in piazza con i serpenti in mano che saranno utilizzati in seguito per coprire la statua del santo nel momento in cui lascia il santuario a lui dedicato.
Il significato di questo rito risale ai miracoli compiuti da San Domenico Abate, mentre girovagava per l'Abruzzo, addomesticando la natura e gli animali, soprattutto i serpenti e i lupi. Pellegrini, turisti e curiosi sono mossi dalla processione e dal miracolo degli innocui serpenti domati, grazie a San Domenico. Anche se i serpenti usati oggi sono innocui il simbolismo allegorico è potente: il serpente è il simbolo del male, un simbolo usato anche per descrivere il diavolo. Con la vittoria del santo sul male anche i partecipanti al rito celebrano la loro libertà e la vittoria sul male e la possibilità di rinascere e ricominciare.
