Boing, boing!
NARRATOR:
Edwin Elephant decided to paint a picture. He tried to hold the paintbrush with his trunk but the paintbrush was very small and his trunk was very big.
IVER
Oh, he’s crying!
NARRATOR
"You can’t paint a picture” laughed Joseph Giraffe, “You’re too big!” Edwin tried to dip the paintbrush into the pot of paint but the paint pot fell over. SPLOSH! All over his piece of paper. "You can't paint a picture,"
laughed Martin monkey, "You're too clumsy."
Eddie was cross. He made a loud trumpeting sound through his trunk. And this made the paint on the paper spread out into a lovely pattern.
IVER
Look!
NARRATOR
"That looks rather good, actually." said Martin Monkey.
Edwin tipped some more paint onto his paper and blew through his trunk. More lovely patterns were made. “That looks very good indeed!” said Joseph Giraffe.
Soon all the animals in the jungle came to see Edwin’s amazing trunk blowing picture. “It just goes to show that you can be big and clumsy and still paint pictures” he said.

"What is it, darling? What's the matter?"
He became absolutely motionless, and he kept his head down.
"This is going to be a big shock to you, I'm afraid," he said. "But I've thought about it a good deal and I've decided that the only
thing to do is to tell you immediately." And he told her. It didn't take long, four or five minutes at most, and she sat still through it
all, watching him with puzzled horror.
"So there it is," he added. "And I know it's a tough time to be telling you this, but there simply wasn't any other way. Of course, I'll
give you money and see that you're taken care of. But there really shouldn't be any problem. I hope not, in any case. It wouldn't be
very good for my job."
Her first instinct was not to believe any of it. She thought that perhaps she'd imagined the whole thing. Perhaps, if she acted as
though she had not heard him, she would find out that none of it had ever happened.
"I'll fix some supper," she whispered. When she walked across the room, she couldn't feel her feet touching the floor. She couldn't
feel anything except a slight sickness. She did everything without thinking. She went downstairs to the freezer and took hold of the
first object she found. She lifted it out, and looked at it. It was wrapped in paper, so she took off the paper and looked at again --- a
leg of lamb.
All right, then, they would have lamb for supper. She carried it upstairs, held the thin end with both her hands. She went into the
living room, saw him standing by the window with his back to her, and stopped.
"I've already told you," he said. "Don't make supper for me. I'm going out."
At that point, Mary Maloney simply walked up behind him and without any pause, she swung the big frozen leg of lamb high in
the air and brought it down as hard as she could on the back of his head. She might as well have hit him with a steel bar.
She stepped back, waiting, and the strange thing was that he remained standing there for at least four or five seconds. Then he
crashed onto the carpet.

Su primer impulso fue no creerse nada, no hacer caso. Se le ocurrió que, quizás, él ni siquiera había abierto la boca, que se lo había imaginado todo ella. Puede que, si seguía con sus tareas como si no hubiera oído nada, más adelante, cuando se despertara de este sueño, descubriría que nada había sucedido.
―Voy a hacer la cena ―susurró.

Muy bien, pues pierna de cordero para cenar. La llevó arriba agarrándola por el hueso con las dos manos. Cuando entró en el salón, vio a su marido de pie junto a la ventana, de espaldas a ella. Se detuvo.
―Por Dios santo ―dijo al oírla llegar, sin darse la vuelta―, no me hagas la cena. Voy a salir.
En ese momento, Mary Maloney se acercó a él por detrás y, sin detenerse ni un instante, levantó la pierna de cordero y se la hundió lo más fuerte que pudo en la parte posterior de la cabeza. Fue como golpearle con una barra de hierro. Después, dio un paso hacia atrás y esperó. The thing that I love most in this world is to be told a good story. That story may come from the yellowing pages of an old book, the flickering glare of cathode ray tubes at midnight, or even the tiny screen of a smartphone while I’m gripping a subway’s handrail. Eventually I discovered that there is a way I can create stories like these myself: through translation. That is, rewriting, transcreating, telling these stories in my language the way my friends and I would love to hear them.
I translate from English into Spanish (my mother tongue) and I’m specialized in Audiovisual Translation – scripts for subtitling and dubbing, web pages, software, multimedia, advertising and video games. I’ve been in the translation business for four years, and the bulk of my work experience comes from my time at Kabam Europe where, first as Game Translator and later as Translation Team Lead, I devoted myself full time to the translation of free-to-play browser and mobile video games of different genres, daily promotions, advertising and web pages, in addition to managing a team of in-house and external translators. I’m also an expert in testing and linguistic QA and have completed a Masters in Audiovisual Translation at the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, where I acquired the particular skills needed for my specialization thanks to the best Spanish professionals in the field.
