Source text - Spanish Yo pienso que lo que hoy vivimos, es un camino que se ha venido transitando duramente un largo periodo de tiempo. Los Estados que hoy conocemos han nacido de una constante evolución histórica, iniciando en un Estado Natural que es anterior a la instauración de la Ley, anterior a la intaraucion del Derecho, anterior a la instauración de la Autoridad Política! pasa depues por un Estado Feudal para finalmente terminar en lo que llamamos hoy Estados Nación.
El mundo en el que hoy estamos se encuentra dividido tanto en países ricos como países pobres; donde estos países pobres se limitan a seguir las deciones tomadas por grandes potencias y donde sus hombres se restringen hacer lo que estos deben querer. Aquello sólo es cuestión de supervivencia! Entendiendo esta como el sentimiento que acompañan al hombre para preservar su propia existencia y preservar la de su misma especie. Eso es lo que puedo decir.
No creo eso. Vivimos en un mundo muy diferente que el de años atrás, las distancias en estos tiempos son mucha más cortas que antes gracias principalmente a trenes, barcos, aviones que van mucho más rápido y aquello a permitido la comunicación entre personas que se encuentran a cientos de miles de kilómetros unos de otros. Toda esta serie de sucesos a creado la necesidad de romper la barrera idiomatica que separa a muchos países atravéz de la adopción de un lenguaje estándar que es el Ingles. La elección del Ingles como lengua estándar es un producto de como se ha desarrollado la historia de la humanidad, en otro contexto podría ser fácilmente Español, Francés, Mandarín.
Lo que mueve el hombre a aprender un nuevo idioma es la "Necesidad", en mi caso que me encuentro estudiando Ingles y que próximamente iniciare por Portugues, mi necesidad se encuentra en querer continuar con mis estudios en un lugar que me ofrece esa oportunidad. Diría entonces que las necesidades mueven al hombre, las necesidades mueven al mundo.
Me gusta los museos, la historia básicamente porque he crecido viendo a mis padres leer todo el tiempo. Bueno, estuve en Londres hace ya 2 meses, estuve en el Museo Británico, Que me gusto del Museo? Bueno, me gusta mucho la cultura Egipcia siempre me a apasionado ese tema y en Londres específicamente en el museo Británico se encuentra un gran artículo dentro de su colección esta es "la Piedra Rosseta", Porque es interesante la Piedra Rosseta? Eso es fácil de responder, la Piedra Rosseta nos revelo los secretos de las Pirámides, los secretos de los Momias. Al llegar los Franceses a Egipto estos no imaginaron que harían uno de los grandes hallazgos arqueológicos de toda la historia. Los secretos de los Faraones se revelaron a nuestros ojos gracias a la Piedra Rosseta, recordemos que esta tiene escrita sobre su superficie un decreto religioso en Griego Antiguo, Demotico y Jeroglífico lo cual permitido la descodificación de las escrituras Egipcias. Estar al frente de aquello con 3000 mil años de antigüedad fue realmente muy emocionante.
Es increíble ir al museo y poder ver tantas culturas, tantos objetos de diferentes lugares del mundo incluso de mi país. Poder pasar de una cultura a otra con sólo dar un par de pasos atravéz del museo es fantástico. Pero se me es extraño algunas cosas. La Piedra Rosseta fue encontrada por Franceses pero finalmente pasaría a manos Inglesas y se exhiba en el Museo Británico lejos de su lugar de origen, la parte extraña es cuando lees sobre personas que desean conocer sobre su historia conocer sobre sus orígenes, sus raíces pero que no logran hacerlo por no cumplir una serie de requisitos con relación a una visa. Entonces debe ser extraño ver como el legado de tus ancentros se muestra en otros lugares y no poder acceder a estos.
El tema que iniciamos fue sobre que significa ser extrangero, que es la situación en la cual hoy me encuentro, pero quien es Extranjero? Todos somos Extranjeros? Todos estamos en las mismas condiciones o los mismos Derechos?, yo hoy me encuentro en un país distinto al mío donde accedí a respetar y cumplir las leyes o normas, cabe recordar que una Visa, no es un derecho, es una concesión de un Estado Soberano y a mi se me permite ingresar al país siempre y cuando yo me ajuste a sus leyes. Quien es extranjero entonces?, en términos políticos un extranjero es aquel que no es nacional por nacimiento es decir que no nace dentro del país o aquel que no es nacional naturalización es decir que la nacionalidad no es dado por otros. Ser extrangero en términos de como concibe un hombre a otro es completamente diferente.
Translation - English I think that the world we live in today is a path that we have been travelling on for a long period of time. The world that we know today was born from a constant historical evolution, starting with a Natural State that was before the establishment of the Law, before the establishment of the Political Authority and after that became a Feudal State that finally ended in what today we call the Nation State.
The world in which we live today has been divided into so many rich countries and poor countries; where these poorer countries are limited by following the decisions taken by the large powers and where their people are restricted to doing what these powers want. That is the only means of survival! Understanding this as the feelings that accompany people to preserve their own existence and preserve that of their own species. That is what I can say.
I don’t believe that. We live in a world that is very different to what has gone before. Now distances are much shorter than before thanks to trains, boats, aeroplanes that go much faster and that allow communication between people that find thousands of miles between them. All these series of successes has created the necessity of breaking the language barrier that separates many countries across the adoption of a standard language. The selection of English as the standard language is a product of how humanities history has evolved. In another context it could have been Spanish, French or Mandarin.
What moves people to learn a new language is ‘necessity.’ In my case what brought me to study English, and soon learning Portuguese, is my necessity to continue studying in a place that offers me the opportunity. I would say then that it is necessity that moves people, necessity that moves the world.
I like museums, history, basically because I have been brought up by my parents to read all the time. Well, I was in London a couple of months ago and I was in the British Museum. What do I like about the museum? Well, I like Egyptian culture. I have always been passionate about this subject and in London specifically in the British Museum you can find a great artefact inside the collection which is the Rosetta Stone. What is interesting about the Rosetta Stone? That is easy to answer. The Rosetta Stone shows us the secrets of the pyramids, the secrets of the Mummies. When the French arrived in Egypt they couldn’t have imagined that they would find one of the greatest arqueological objects of all history. The secrets of the pharaohs are revealed to our eyes thanks to the Rosetta Stone. We remember that this has written on it a religious decry in Ancient Greek, Demotic, Hieroglyphs that allow the decoding of the Egyptian Scriptures. To be in front of something that is 3000 years old was very exciting/moving.
It’s incredible to go to a museum and be able to see so many cultures, so many objects of different places of the world including my country. To be able to pass one culture and then another in only a few steps across the museum was fantastic. But somethings struck me as strange. The Rosetta Stone was found by the French but finally ended up in the hands of the English and it is being exhibited in the British Museum far from the place where it originated. The strange part is when you read about people that want to know about the history, to know about it’s origins, it’s roots, but they didn’t attempt to meet all the requirements to do it because it would mean creating a check list. So it must be strange to see how the legacy of your ancestors is on show in other places and to be unable to access it.
The subject/theme that we started with about the significance of being a immigrant, the situation in which I have found myself, but what is an immigrant? (Aren’t) We are all immigrants? (Don’t) We all have the same conditions and the same rights? Today I find myself in a distinctly different country to my own where I act with respect and follow the rules and social norms. I need to remember that a visa, it isn’t a right, it is a concession of the nation state and to me I am allowed to be in the country if I follow the rules. Who is an immigrant then? In political terms an immigrant is someone that is not a born national. It’s to say someone who was not born in the country or who has not been naturalised as a national. It’s to say that the nationality is not given by others. To be an immigrant (and be viewed as an other) in terms of which views a person as an other is completely different.
