my name is Jan Matějka and I'm here to offer you what others can't. I'm at the point of my career where I can offer translations of excellent quality at a great value. My focus has always been on becoming the best translator I can be and I’ve done a great job at it so far, in my humble opinion. However, unluckily for me, this business only really appreciates the time spent translating, not the effort put into it. This is why there are many translators with similar level of expertise charging more, simply because they’ve been in this business longer than I am.
Here’s what I’ve done in the past three years to become the best translator I can be:
·Earned my MA in translation. The translation program helped me understand what I should specialize in (what I do best) and provided me with a lot of detailed feedback, Icould learn from.
·Attended a prestigious translation internship in the European Commission. I spent five months there translating the same documents as the regular staff and I received feedback on all my translations, showing me areas to improve.
·Took a course in legal translation to better understand and translate legal texts that can often appear in non-legal documents, I translate.
·Mastered most of the widely used CAT tools: SDL Trados Studio, Memsource, MemoQ, etc.
·Attended several powwows and conferences, gaining an insightful knowledge from more experienced colleagues.
·Was introduced to the concept of peer reviews and began organizing them myself in Brno, Czech Republic.
·And lastly, I’ve of course translated and proofread for various clients in different fields and totaled my first million translated words – details can be found in my CV which I’ll gladly send you upon request.
