Source text - English KATE MARA ON SUPERHEROES, FAMILY DYNAMICS AND WHY
SHE’D LOVE TO BE ABLE TO FLY…
Kate Mara made her feature debut in Sydney Pollack’s 1999 film Random Hearts with Harrison Ford. She had high profile appearances in the TV shows Nip/Tuck (as the bisexual cheerleader Vanessa), 24 (as computer analyst Shari Rothenberg), and American Horror Story (as Hayden McClaine, a student who becomes the dead mistress of Dylan McDermott’s Dr. Ben Harmon).
In 2012 she joined the cast of series House of Cards as Zoe Barnes, a reporter from Washington D.C. who becomes involved with Kevin Spacey’s Frank Underwood.
Q: What can we expect from this incarnation of the Fantastic Four?
A: Well, I think the great thing about our version is that it is definitely based on the original comic books, but it's modernized. It’s the origins of these characters, so you get to know them right before they get their powers and the complications that come along with that. So I think that's different: we haven't seen that with this specific story before. On a personal level, I'm a total superhero movie nerd, and my favorite kind is always when I get to see the character forming their superpower because you feel so much closer to them – you understand why they got that specific power in the first place. It humanizes them.
Q: With origin stories, you know at the outset, ‘They’re going to get superpowers!’ but I guess it’s the journey that’s fun.
A: Yeah. Then you really root for them. I also love that in our story, you see the struggles that each of us goes through in trying to figure out how to use our powers. You see us first as teenagers, and I feel like the general thing that most teenagers go through is, ‘Who am I and where do I belong?’ The interesting thing about this is seeing each of us handle the ups and the downs of that. I think for me, that was the most exciting aspect.
Q: What are your thoughts on your character, Sue Storm?
A: Everyone knows she's the Invisible Woman. But in our film, we explore how and why that is her power. Does it have to do with a specific characteristic she had before? Josh and I really talked about that. Before she has the power, when she's just a normal girl, what is it that she's trying to keep from people? Why does she not show her whole self? That to me was really interesting because I think everybody has some sort of… not secrets necessarily, but some people take longer in their lives to really show people who they are. And Sue in this film is adopted. I think that adds to her vulnerability and her not wanting people to see her for who she really is. So when she does get this power, at first it's terrifying to her. She doesn't want it; she wants to be normal. But the fact that she can become invisible is actually something that she probably always really wanted. She's fighting against it now that she has it. So the journey of at first not wanting it and then being able to say, “Okay, well what are the advantages of this and how can I use it to help people, and to help my family?” To have that arc and that journey with her was really, it was like a growing experience, which was nice.
Q: So what is the dynamic between your character and the other three?
A: Well, obviously Johnny Storm is my brother. They've got the normal sibling dynamic. They're definitely close, but there's a little bit of tension there because Sue has a very good relationship with Doctor Storm, their Father. We share the same passion for science. We share that, so even though we're not from the same blood line, it connects us on almost an even deeper level, and the fact that he chose me as a child makes Johnny feel inferior, I think. I mean, it's more of a tension between him and our Dad because Johnny and I have a really great relationship. But the fights between him and my Dad cause tension because I love them both equally. I have this thing of sticking up for my Dad, but also wanting them to just be. That was fun to play because Mike and I have a very natural chemistry. It was really easy for him and I to sort of just like jump right into it. The Thing is played by Jamie. There’s a scene in the film between Sue and Ben before he's become The Thing; it's a very, very small interaction, and one of the few scenes that I have with him in the story. It's very subtle, but she has this sort of affection for him. I think in the comic books as well, the Invisible Girl is always kind of sticking up for him. That came easily for me because i already knew and loved Jamie Bell.
Q: In this version, does Sue have any other powers apart from being invisible?
A: She can create force fields, which comes in very handy. It's like a giant moveable bubble she can create around things. So it's like our version of flying. I can create a force field around all of us and sort of transport us to another place.
Q: That's convenient. You’re the Uber of the team…
A: Ha ha! Exactly! I'm going to use that.
Q: Do you have to do any special training?
A: There wasn't really any special training for it. Although, when you know you're going to have to be in a spandex suit for three months of your life, you can bet your ass I was training for that! The only specific training that we had to do was make sure we were comfortable with the wire work, which is so much fun. Any time anyone's ever asked me that question: “If you had a superpower, what would it be?” I’ve always said, I’d want to fly, and now I feel like I've had a little taste of what that feels like. I think one of my favorite days on set was just a day where Mike and I had to fly together. We felt like little kids! It will be exciting to see those scenes because you're doing it in front of a green screen and reacting to stuff that's not there.
Q: Why do you think there is such a wave of superhero-related TV shows and movies these days?
A: Well, personally I love an underdog story, and a lot of these superheroes start out just as normal people who undergo an extraordinary event or situation that creates this power that they then have to figure out how to use. I don't know: I think people like to watch normal people in extraordinary situations. And don’t we all want to feel special in some way?

R: ¡Exacto! Ahí es cuando en verdad te pones de su lado. Eso es lo que me encanta de nuestra historia, ves las batallas que cada uno enfrenta mientras trata de entender cómo usar sus poderes. Nos verás primero como adolescentes; creo que en general lo que todo adolescente enfrenta es la incógnita ‘¿Quién soy yo y a dónde pertenezco?’ Lo interesante de esto es ver cómo cada uno de nosotros lidia con los sube y bajas de esta etapa. Para mí, creo, esa fue la parte más excitante.
P: ¿Qué piensas de tu personaje, Sue Storm?
R: Todo mundo sabe que es la mujer invisible; pero en esta cinta exploramos cómo y por qué ese es su poder. ¿Tendrá que ver con alguna característica que ya tenía? Josh y yo hablamos mucho sobre eso. Antes de que ella adquiera su poder, cuando es una niña normal, ¿qué es lo que está tratando de esconder del resto de la gente?, ¿por qué no quiere mostrar todo su ser? Eso fue para mí sumamente interesante, porque creo que todos tenemos algún tipo de… quizás no necesariamente son secretos, pero algunas personas tardan más tiempo en su vida para mostrar al resto de las personas quiénes son en verdad. En esta cinta, Sue es adoptada. Creo que esto aumenta su vulnerabilidad y el que no quiera que la gente la vea por quien realmente es. Así que cuando adquiere su poder al principio para ella es aterrorizante. No lo quiere; ella quiere ser normal. Pero el hecho es que cuando se puede volver invisible, en realidad está logrando algo que probablemente siempre quiso, pero lucha en contra de ello ahora que lo tiene. Por eso, la travesía va desde no quererlo al principio hasta llegar al punto de decir “Bueno, ¿cuáles son las ventajas de esto y cómo lo puedo usar para ayudar a la gente y a mi familia?” Poder representar este proceso con ella fue, de verdad, una experiencia de crecimiento, fue lindo.
P: Entonces, ¿cuál es la dinámica entre tu personaje y los otros tres?
R: Bueno, obviamente Johnny Storm es mi hermano. Tienen la misma dinámica que cualquier par de hermanos. Definitivamente son cercanos, pero ahí hay un poco de tensión porque Sue tiene una muy buena relación con el Doctor Storm, su padre: compartimos la misma pasión por la ciencia; ese es el vínculo, por lo que aunque no compartamos la misma sangre, estamos conectados a un nivel más profundo, y el hecho de que me escogiera a mí como hija hace que Johnny se sienta inferior, creo. Lo que quiero decir es que hay más tensión entre él y nuestro padre, en realidad Johnny y yo tenemos una muy buena relación. Pero las peleas entre él y mi padre causan tensión porque yo los amo por igual. Tiendo a defender a mi padre, pero también quiero que ambos se dejen ser. Fue divertido actuar esto porque Mike y yo tenemos mucha química; en realidad fue fácil para él y para mí solo empezar a actuar, sin mayor preparación entre nosotros. Jamie es quien interpreta a La Mole. Hay una escena en la película entre Sue y Ben antes de que se convirtiera en La Mole; es solo una muy, muy breve interacción y una de las pocas escenas que tengo con él en la historia. Es muy sutil, pero ella siente un tipo de afecto por él. Me parece que también en los cómics, como que la Mujer Invisible siempre se pone de su lado. A: ¡Jajaja! ¡Exactamente! Te voy a copiar la expresión.
P: ¿Tienes que hacer algún entrenamiento especial?
R: No hubo ningún entrenamiento especial, aunque, cuando sabes que vas a usar un traje de spandex los próximos tres meses ¡te aseguro que me puse a entrenar! El único entrenamiento específico que tuvimos que hacer fue asegurarnos de estar cómodos con el trabajo de cable, que es tan divertido. Siempre que me preguntan “¿Si tuvieras un superpoder, cúal sería?” contesto que me gustaría volar, y ahora siento que tuve una probadita de cómo se siente. Creo que uno de mis días favoritos en el set fue cuando Mike y yo tuvimos que volar juntos. ¡Nos sentimos como niños! Será emocionante ver esas escenas porque lo actúas frente a la pantalla verde y debes reaccionar a cosas que en realidad no están ahí.
P: ¿Por qué crees que hay esta tendencia a hacer películas y series sobre superhéroes?
R: Bueno, personalmente, me encantan las historias de inadaptados, y muchos de estos superhéroes empiezan como personas normales que atraviesan un evento o situación extraordinaria que les brinda este poder, que luego tendrán que entender para poder usarlo. No sé, quizás la gente disfrute ver a gente normal en situaciones extraordinarias. ¿Acaso no nos gusta sentirnos especiales de alguna forma?

Avant votre visite, veuillez vous rendre sur le site web de la marque à auditer, afin de vous imprégner de son atmosphère et des produits qu'elle propose.
Votre scénario d'entrée
Profil Enquêtrice : vous connaissez mal votre peau, vous êtes dans le doute, vous avez essayé plusieurs crèmes. Vous êtes un peu perdue par rapport à tout ce qui existe.
