Source text - English PROCESS FOR PATTERNING MATERIALS IN THIN-FILM DEVICES
This application is being filed on 24 February 2012, as a PCT International Patent application in the name of Orthogonal, Inc., a U.S. national corporation, applicant for the designation of all countries except the U.S., and, John DeFranco, a citizen of the U.S., Mike Miller, a citizen of the U.S., and Fox Holt, a citizen of the U.S., applicants for the designation of the U.S. only, and claims priority to U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 61/448,724 filed on 03 March 2011, the disclosure of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
The present disclosure provides a method for patterning active layers in devices to permit two, distinct, patterns to be formed in two or more different active layers following a single photolithographic step. This process can be employed to form multilayer, patterned organic or inorganic devices.
Various devices are known that employ patterned organic materials aligned to features or structures on a substrate. These devices are often considered to have the potential for low cost since organic materials are typically less expensive than inorganic materials and these organic materials can be rapidly blanket coated over large substrates, permitting the formation of large, low cost devices. One example of such a device is a display employing Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLEDs). Besides providing the potential for low cost, these displays have the potential to produce light much more efficiently and with higher visual quality than most competitive display technologies. Therefore, OLED displays have the potential to displace LCD and plasma displays in many markets. This OLED technology can additionally be employed in other devices, including lamps with adjustable color. Similar device structures can be employed using organic semiconductors to form organic photovoltaic devices, organic memory devices and organic electrical components; such as organic Thin Film Transistors (oTFTs).
Unfortunately, OLED technology, particularly OLED display technology, has been adopted slowly. This slow adoption rate stems at least partially from the high cost of patterning these materials to form a practical display device. Various approaches to patterning organic materials to form full color OLED displays have been attempted. Patterning of different colors of material by vapor deposition of organic materials through shadowmasks has proven to be effective. However these shadowmasks limit the resolution of the displays, the size of the substrate that can be successfully coated, and increase the tact time. The first area of focus is Credit Risk…..
Credit Risk is the risk arising from the possibility a borrower or counterparty will fail to perform (or default) on an obligation GE Capital has entered into with them. For us, credit default risk of our leases and loans are the largest source of credit risk. Credit risk can also come in the form of off balance sheet activities such as unfunded loan commitments and lines of credit.We manage Credit Risk through a robust underwriting process that use both model based quantitative assessments of the borrower alongside qualitative assessments which leverage our underwriter’s domain expertise across industries and verticals.
In addition to credit default risk, we also manage concentration risk which is the overall management of the portfolio of exposure GE Capital has to a single entity, or within specific industries. The goal is to ensure a single exposure or groups of exposures don’t pose too great a risk to the company’s core operations.
The next area involves both Investment Risk & Valuations…
Valuations are a fundamental component of risk assessment across all of GECC. They are essential to core underwriting of loans, investments and long term fixed assets. They are part of portfolio management, ALLL, impairments, stress testing and resolution planning. GECC’s unique portfolio of businesses and its exposure to asset classes that are characterized as “private markets”, with limited observable events and proprietary data, means that asset valuations at GECC are largely based on discounted cash flow models augmented by appraisals with an overlay of expert judgment.
As the valuation process in GECC is heavily influenced by expert judgment, the governance standards around valuations must be strong enough to ensure that the process is consistent across business units and asset classes, reliable and well documented including a robust challenge function to test assumptions. Senior management and the GE Board must have the highest confidence in the valuation process and transparency into how valuations play out in downside and stressed scenarios in order to effectively manage GECC and ensure the adequacy of our capital base.
