My name is Katherine Selby, I am a graduate of French & Spanish language with Master's degree in applied translation and 6 years experience in the language-services industry.

My key achievements throughout my professional career so far include:

n  Translation, transcreation, proofreading and post-editing in the fields of: digital marketing, SEO content writing, automotive and transport, business/commercial, animals and pet care, interior decoration, health and wellbeing.

n  Spanish to English translation (80,000+ words) for MContigo Translations: informational articles and blog pages on health and wellbeing, interior decoration and DIY, and pet care and health (for the websites My Animals, Decortips and Exploring Your Mind)

n  French to English translation for the French transport company Capelle Transports: business documentation for internal use (meeting minutes, company policies and internal procedures, company emails, PowerPoint presentations, legal contracts), training material (heavy-good vehicle specification, training prospectus, training booklet on securing oversized loads), commercial and marketing material (company website, company marketing brochure, business presentations, company newsletter).

n  I also have 4 years experience working with SDL Trados as a translator and a project manager, and am trained in MultiTerm, Passolo, Déjà vu X3 and MemoQ.  

In my professional career, I have also worked as translation project manager for the UK LSP thebigword, and the digital marketing agency Search Laboratory.

In these roles, I managed the end-to-end workflows of multilingual translation projects, working closely with clients to understand their translation needs, and with teams of specially selected translators, proofreaders and post-editors to deliver these projects on time and on budget.

These roles have given me practical experience of working in a fast-paced professional environment and allowed me to develop strong project and time management skills. Both roles also required me to work with SDL Trados on a daily basis, and as a result I am very familiar with the translation, terminology and project management functionalities of this CAT tool. 

My key specialisms are digital marketing (and the writing and localisation of website content for SEO) and automotive/transport. 

Digital marketing

In my current role at Search Laboratory, I lead and manage multilingual search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns, the aim of which is to help businesses increase their website visibility in search engines, and ultimately generate conversions and drive digital sales.

This involves the localisation of website content from French/Spanish to English, integrating keywords throughout the process, to not only help search engines understand and rank the copy, but also to provide customers with informative content that answers their search queries.

While my role specialises in SEO, I have also received training in and exposure to digital PR, pay-per-click and programmatic campaigns, meaning I am confortable translating for a wide range of digital marketing disciplines.

Automotive and transport,

I first developed this specialism in my commercial role for the French transport company Capelle Transports.

It required me to not only coordinate the day-to-day operations of heavy-goods vehicles and the import/export of goods between the UK and France, but also to oversee the translation of all company documentation from French to English.

This included the translation of marketing material across the company’s website and commercial brochures, as well as more technical vehicle specifications, driver training material and internal documentation, such as business proposals and internal emails.
