Translation - English MEXICO CITY (CNN Expansion) —Beginningin 2014, captive taxpayers willfeel a two-partpinch on their pocketbooks, as income taxes are set to rise above their present rates whilepossibilities for deductions will be lowered, due to amendments to Income Tax Lawthat have been approved by the Chamber of Deputies. According to the amendment, people who annually earn more than 500,000 and up to 750,000 pesos will have to pay an income tax rate of 31%; those who earnbetween 750,000 and up to onemillion pesos, a rate of 32%; those who make between one and up to three million pesos will pay a rate of 34%; and anyone earning more than three million pesos will pay35%.
Taxpayers with incomes below 500,000 pesos will pay taxes as they have up to this point, at a maximum rate of 30%, a detail of the proposal that still needs to be discussed by the Chamber of Senators. In addition to raising rates, a limit will be added to the total amount of personal deductions. The limit will negatively impact all taxpayers, not only the high-earners, affirmed tax consultant from Deloitte, Luis Liñero. An individual will be able to deduct only theamount that results in a smallerfigure, either 10% of their total annual income or a sumequal to four times the minimum annual salaryin the Federal District, which currently totals94,549 pesos. Following this model, if a worker has an income of one million pesos and incursdeductible expenses of 115,000 pesos per year, he will onlybe able to deduct 94,549 pesos,in addition to having to pay a 32% tax rate, compared to the current maximum of 30%.
