I pupi siciliani vengono mossi da due robusti ferri, uno alla testa e uno alla mano destra, e da due o tre fili ausiliari. La loro struttura è sempre in legno ed è costituita da un’ossatura e dalla testa. L’ossatura è composta da un busto dal quale si articolano le gambe, dotate di movimento pendolare, libero in avanti e limitato indietro, e le braccia, che sono libere di muoversi in tutte le direzioni perché la mano e l’avambraccio sono uniti alla spalla da un segmento di stoffa imbottita. Nel tipo palermitano busto e gambe sono di legno massiccio mentre a Catania e a Napoli lo scheletro di legno è imbottito.

The Sicilian pupi are moved by two strong irons, connected to the head and to the right hand, and two or three auxiliary strings. Their structure is always made of wood and consists in a skeleton and the head. The skeleton is composed of a bust from which are articulated the hanging legs and arms, which are free to move in all directions because the hand and the forearm are linked to the shoulder by a segment of padded cloth. In the palermitan kind the bust and legs are made of solid wood while in Catania and in Naples the wooden skeleton is padded. |
