About me

My name is Phoebe, and I am a native English-speaking translator based in Manchester, UK. I specialise in law, EU and music. I also offer proofreading, revision, editing and English transcription services. I have been translating since 2016 and am an active member of the NWTN (North West Translation Network).

I prioritise not only accuracy, but also the flow of my translations. I seek to harmonise the style of language with the message and context of the source material.

I also hold the Trinity Cert. TESOL qualification, which has helped me in my own learning of foreign languages and it has also given me a deeper understanding of my mother tongue.

Law and EU

With the GDL legal qualification and having worked in a contracts role at a prestigious UK university, I can apply my knowledge and experience with commercial contracts, research contracts and drafting skills to my translation work. My experience negotiating contract terms and conditions gives me an excellent grounding for aiding with and facilitating communication with my clients as to their precise needs and aims. My niche areas within the area of contracts are: research and commercial contracts, with emphasis on intellectual property rights and publishing rights. My previous role in contracts involved a particular emphasis on collaborative research projects and clinical trials with pharmaceutical companies, and therefore I would consider translating these kinds of contracts.

I combined my legal background with translation skills while working as a lawyer-linguist for the European Court of Justice in 2016-17. I gained excellent legal research skills in the use of specialized language and glossaries. I am therefore familiar with EU law and the established working norms and standards of the EU institutions, which gives me the necessary experience to take on EU-related projects.

Music
Another of my specialist areas is music. I have studied classical music and performance to an advanced level.
