Vredno, bistro dete.
A tamu, pod streata, kraj skalite, kakvo iznenaduvawe, kakov pre~ek!
Trepkaat liv~iwa beli!
Ima li zborovi za opis na naj ≠ ubavinata?
U{te od vrata, †na majka li~en#, taka taa ~esto mu veli, veselo i vikna, glasno £ javi:
≠ Mamo, vide li, za tebe procvetalo prvoto koki~e vo gradinata!
^udna dru‘ina, neli?
≠ A koga se sobrale? ≠ }e pra{a nekoj.

POEMS
IN THE KINGDOM OF FRIENDSHIP
To be part
of a pretty flower…
Is there anything better
in this hour?
To be a bird,
high up in a flight…
have you heard
anything better in this world?
To have toys
one hundred and five…
Are there greater joys
in this world?
A friend next to a friend
in a merry hold…
There is nothing
better in this world!
GREETINGS
“Good morning! Good morning!”
I say it every morn.
“Good afternoon” I say at noon.
This is how my greetings are strewn.
One says “Good night!”
when evening comes.
One says “Good bye!” at parting
and then runs.
When you go to bed,
give a hug to mom and dad.
Say “Good night” to them,
hear “Good night” back, and be glad.
HERE WE GO, KID, A POEM!
Don’t ever say: “What?” “Heigh?” or “Whaa?”
Say “I beg your pardon?” when called.
Good manners should grow on you
and become your second mold.
Say always “Here” and “Here we go, please”
when giving something to somebody.
And when someone gives something to you,
say deftly and clearly “Thank you”.
A CLEAN CHILD
I wash my little hands,
with soap I clean them up,
I wipe them with a towel
and to heaven raise them up.
I do this every day
come winter and spring.
I know what is right
I am a clean child.
FIVE
Five fingers I have
on one hand!
Five fingers, five fingers
on the other hand!
One, two, three, four, five.
I can count them, no pain.
Six, seven, eight, nine, ten.
You count them then.
Five and five make ten.
I have ten fingers then
to hug you all with them.
LET’S EXERCISE
Hands up – hands down!
I exercise aptly at this hour.
One – two! One – two!
I need a shower!
Head left – head right!
I exercise aptly at this hour.
One – two! One – two!
I need a shower!
A step forward – a step backward!
I exercise aptly at this hour.
One – two! One – two!
I need a shower!
A LETTER
On a yellow quince leaf,
Fall a letter sent,
and every word was meant:
- Mr. Wind Coldowski is coming!
Close the doors, please!
FALL
Fall is golden
and fruit bears.
It turns blond
green trees’ hair.
.
Wind is playing,
rain is singing,
leaves are falling
and sad songs bringing.
DECIDUOUS AND EVERGEENS
Without much pain or ado,
fall does
whatever it likes
to deciduous trees!
It changes their color,
it swings, plucks and tears them,
and cuts them like a knife.
It bears them wherever it likes!
But to evergreens,
with leaves – a bunch of pricks,
it cannot do a thing!
With them it does not dare
wedge a war or sting.
WHO LIVES IN FORESTS?
-Who lives in forests,
mountains or alps?
Ilina asked
her father Ralph.
- The little rabbit, the little chipmunk...
- What about the little doe, dad?
- It too, with its mom and dad,
so it never feels sad
or has any dread.
Because somewhere there
a wolf might walk,
and an eagle might
cause everybody a shock.
GOODBYE!
You, migrating birds,
you, storks and swallows
and you sweet nightingale,
our world trotters,
make a sky-arch high.
then a return ticket buy.
Wherever you go,
wherever you may be,
come back here and be with me!
ABACUS
Hoo - boo,
one, two,
E - or,
three, four,
My - mix,
five, six,
Here - Cate
seven, eight,
Oh-man
nine, ten.
EVERYONE LIKES MILK
To be strong
and fit as a fiddle
I like milk a lot
and can drink it hot.
This drink is tasty,
and it is food, you know,
mommy dearest,
give me some yogurt, ho!
Apt and deft hands
cheese can make.
Many things like cake
call for with milk to make.
Milk can sour cream
easily be,
but my “sour face”
you will never see!
To grow up and be
as healthy as a fiddle,
I like milk a lot,
and can drink it hot!
THREE TIPS
This tip about food
should be given first:
don’t rush while you eat
breakfast, lunch or dinner
or your tummy will burst!
And the second tip is:
chew the food right!
Then your tummy
will not cry – mommy, mommy!
And we’ll give you
a third tip as a joke:
eat with your mouth closed
and your morsels will not be disposed.
WE ARE GROWING, YOU ARE GROWING
Apples and pears,
strawberries and plums
grow everywhere
in our fields and farms.
Grapes, quinces, nectarines
apricots and cherries.
The one who eats them
will be always merry.
Grow, grow
dear fruits,
give us cheer,
give us mirth!
In you
sweet juice is hiding.
With you in childhood lands
we are riding!
WHO DOES WHAT?
The hen gathers the chicks: CLUCK-CLUCK!
The chicks look for warms on the thrashing floor: PEEP-PEEP!
The crow is perched on a tree: CAW-CAW!
The donkey sings a song: HEE-HAW!
The cricket plays: CHIRP-CHIRP!
The cuckoo answers: CU-CKOO, CU-CKOO!
The alarm clock rings: BEEP-BEEP!
The fly took a wrong path: ZOO-ZOO!
The cat says “Meow” to the lashing wind.
The lost lamb is bleating: BAAAAA!
The caw is answering back: MUUU!
What about the fish? Silent as they wish!
DOCTOR
Who listens to your chest?
and says: “Breathe! Breathe!”?
Who says to you: “Be healthy
and grow up mighty”?
An uncle or an auntie,
not important who they are,
doctors always care
and about your health
make you aware.
GRANDPA SANDE – A CELEBRITY SHOEMAKER
Who doesn’t know
our celebrity shoemaker?
In our muddy alley,
he is a record-breaker.
-Bang-bang-bang! Bang-bang-bang!-
He loudly calls, everybody’s waking.
- Bang-bang-bang! Bang-bang-bang!–
Golden shoes he’s making.
He hammers, sews and glues.
It is no sweat for this bloke.
He even finds time,
to tell a joke.
-Bang-bang-bang! Bang-bang-bang!-
He loudly calls, everybody’s waking.
- Bang-bang-bang! Bang-bang-bang!–
Golden shoes he’s making.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I am so happy
I can tell the whole world:
dear kids, I say, today
is my birthday.
Come, come,
I invite you all;
with you close to me,
the merrier I will be.
We’ll have drinks,
I’ll blow candles.
The largest piece of cake
we all can handle.
Playing and singing
time goes fast.
Whoever isn’t here yet
come to me at last!
Come, come,
I invite you all;
with you close to me,
the merrier I will be.
A WISH LIST TO SANTA CLAUS
Sher wants a teddy bear
Bess a silk dress,
Mar a little car,
Jess a motorcycle best.
Madge wants a sledge,
Blaine a little plain,
Edith a box of sweets
Molly a new dolly.
Annett wants a trumpet,
Jade a jar of marmalade
Nicolette a chocolate,
Cole a big football.
What does Trajche want?
He readily cuts through: - Okay,
I wish Santa Clause
came here every day!
A POEM ABOUT MOTHER
When I feel bad
and my heart is to burst
you, mother, offer
your warm hand first.
When I go to bed
and take a rest,
you see me off, mommy,
with your eyes blessed.
You caress my hair
with a shining face,
you take me in your embrace
you give me a hug with grace.
“My sweet babe!” -
your voice I hear.
I cannot but hug you back,
my mother dear!
THE SEASONS
Let anyone to any
earthly beauties cling,
but there is nothing
more beautiful than the spring!
Summer spreads its arms
with warmth and retreat,
but fall fills
our eyes and our barns.
Oh, how many bouquets
of colors, beauties, life
pretty spring gives.
Let anyone to any
earthly beauties cling,
but there is nothing
more beautiful than the spring!
WELCOME!
-Welcome, welcome,
oh, flowery spring!
The little bee said, flying
out in the garden on its wigs.
Welcome, welcome,
oh, singing spring!
The loving doe whispered,
dancing.
Welcome, welcome
oh, flowery spring!
The little ant called,
joyfully crawling.
-Welcome, welcome,
oh, lush spring!
The red dawn hearty
greeting brings.
-Welcome, welcome,
oh, glorious spring!
The singing bird sang,
fluttering.
THE SEASONS
The snow’s melting,
the brook and river flowing.
The nest under the balcony
a swallow’s waiting.
Spring flowers
everywhere blooming.
The hardworking bee
from flower to a flower’s flying
The tree, the forest, the hill
and the field getting greener.
The nightingale’s calling:
-Spring is coming, spring is coming!
THE SNOWDROP- A LITTLE HERO
Who does not know
the snowdrop - the little hero?
It grows out with no guard
while winter still lasts in the yard…
As a white snowflake
peeping under the snow,
a joy to the people,
as a jewel on the bank it shows.
Because it grows bravely
in the wilderness too…
Go, see it!
It will shine at you!
SPRING FRUITS
First the strawberries,
honey sweet,
then the cherries
our mouth meet.
Then the peaches and the apricots
in a rush to ripen,
laughing at the green fruits
loudly and proudly.
CHERRY
Turn your eyes up:
what’s hiding over there?
Pick it, pick it
raise your fingers in the air.
Wash it with your little hands
which branches can bend.
Drink the juice and
let it in your mouth end.
DO YOU LOVE NATURE?
I love you, I love you,
you make me strong!
Our mother dear,
oh, sweet nature! This is my song.
You give us air,
you feed us, oh fair.
In your laps
we picnic share.
Come sunshine,
come blowing wind,
everyone must
care for you and be kind!
I love you and hold you,
oh, the apple of my eye!
You, our colorful beauty,
are my sky!
A POEM ABOUT NATURE
Care about flowers,
do not step on them.
Watch where you’re going!
An ant is crawling.
Think first, dear kids:
is it good
to break twigs
of young trees?
Care about the yard,
and nature whole.
That’s the way to do good
to us, all.
IVO HAS A…
Ivo has a plane
that moves on rail.
He also has a truck, what luck,
with motor that sails on water.
He navigates his ship
up in the clouds, it’s a hip.
He travels by his train
on seas main.
He has a chopper -
an underwater hopper.
A submarine bold
which travels among clouds cold.
They bought him a bus
that jumps over rails!
There is no better make
than my little car - he hails.
His rail car
rashes without rail,
and his elegant jeep
swims like a fish in the deep.
He wants to travel
forests by rockets.
He plans a bike tour
to another planet, for sure.
A LITTLE BIT “MORE”
A dish of ice cream
to an elephant
was served,
but he ordered afore
five one-ton scoops more.
I WANT A BOOK…
Books are my good friends.
We often are together.
They have their own place
in the bookcase.
I learn from them
many poems and stories.
My days are happy,
I conquered new territories.
My daddy reads to me,
my mommy does too.
When I learn the letters,
oh, something new,
I’ll read myself too.
VERSES ABOUT BOOKS
Why’s this so and not like that,
they’ll tell you all how things stand.
Just take them in your hand.
There are no secrets for them all.
Books keep everything under control.
They will teach you how things go,
when to say yes and when - no.
There are no secrets for them all.
Books keep everything under control.
What was and could be,
what’s now and coming.
There are no secrets for them all.
Books keep everything under control.
How many? How much? Where? Whether?
In those little letters,
everything is gathered.
There are no secrets for them all.
Books keep everything under control.
STORIES AND TALES
A GIFT AND A KISS
Father came back from work.
Mother and child welcomed him at the door.
- Your son has been a very good boy today! - Mother praised the child.
- Oh, bravo! – Father said happily.
- Go to dad and he will give you something! She whispered to their beloved child.
The child moved forward and stopped.
He looked confused. Father did not have anything in his hands!
Yet he went slowly to him.
He expected something.
At the beginning, Father was even more confused.
He was standing.
He was thinking.
What shall I give to the child? I do not have anything - empty hands, empty pockets…
Shall I promise to buy him something?
He is waiting for something now.
No!
Another more beautiful and more powerful thought came to him.
He opened his hands wide, as if opening the whole world for him and kissed him.
Here, son, a kiss form dad, - he said giving him a kiss.
A parent has always something to give. Even when he does not have a gift.
And when he does have, the kiss makes the gift a hundred, a thousand and thousand times more worthy!
TAKING CARE OF MOTHER
On the first day, Mother took Zlatko to the kindergarten.
Again, on the second day, Mother took Zlatko to the kindergarten.
She took him on the third day too, and on the fourth…
On the fifth day Zlatko said:
- Mum, today I am taking you to the kindergarten!
He took Mother by hand and led her.
When they arrived at the kindergarten entrance, Zlatko let go of Mother’s hand and said:
- Mom, go to work alone now, but don’t forget to come here so I can take you home.
A NAUGHTY DAY
Teaching him how to behave in the day care center, Nikolche’s father would say:
-You should be quiet and well behaved, son. You should do what your teacher tells you to do.
He would constantly repeat:
- Do what the other children are doing!
Nikolche memorized his father’s words like a poem.
- When all play with Lego blocks…, - his father would start his sentence.
- I should play too, Nikolche would finish the sentence.
- When everyone listens to what the teacher is saying…
- I should listen too.
- When all eat…
- I should eat тоо.
- When all draw…
- I should draw too
- When everybody sing…
- I should sing too…
One day his father said to him strictly:
- Nikolche! You have been naughty today in the day care center! I told you a hundred times: do what everybody is doing!?
- Well, that’s what I have done, dad, answered Nikolche. They have all been naughty, and so was I.
BLACK AND WHITE
What is black?
The night is black.
The board is black.
The coal is black.
The unlit room is black.
Olives are black.
Chernozem is black.
Grandma Dana’s scarf is black.
Shoes are black.

Soot is black.
The bottom of your pan is black.
The tar is black.
The bleakness is black.
Black as black mulberry.
Black as currants.
Black as ripe blackberry.
Black as the pupil of the eye...
The blackest is when everything looks black.
And what is white, then?
The day is white.
The chalk is while.
The ceiling is white.
The horseradish is white.
Mothers’ face powder is white.
Zarko’s lamb is white.
Grandfathers’ beards are white.
The little daisy flower is white.
The ribbon Rada’s wearing is white.
Most sheep are white.
Cherry bloom is white.
Whitey is white.
Egg white is white.
Cotton is white.
Milk is white.
White as limestone.
White as sugar.
White as pebbles.
The green bank is white.
Why so many exclamation marks as big as river banks in your head?
The green bank is white. Yes, it is!
It is white when covered in snow!
ELENA AND HELPING
Putting on her little sweater, Elena got tangled up.
She put the inside of the sweater out.
Some of her friends were laughing at her.
Elpida came and helped her dress properly.
The next day Emil, who laughed the most at Elena, got tangled up, putting his sweater on.
Elena came to him and helped him get dressed properly.
No one laughed, but some of the kids started thinking.
OCCUPIED!
Mother was trying to persuade Zlatko to get in the bathtub to give him a bath.
He was running away and crying. He did not want to do it.
- Look here! Your little duck is getting in the bath tub… his mother said and dropped one of Zlatko’s toys in the water.
Zlatko stopped. He looked at the little duck swimming merrily.
- Here goes the chipmunk too. It needs a bath, his mother said, putting the toy in the water.
Zlatko came closely and started putting the other toys in the water:
the pussy cat, the doggy, the piggy and the bunny. The little car, the bucket and the spade, the plastic Lego blocks. All went in the water.
He dumped so many toys in the bathtub, that there was no more room for him anymore It was occupied!
THE GREEN SQUIRREL
Nikolche was drawing in his pad. In front of him there was a whole pile of coloring pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, and behind him - his father, standing and overseeing the work of the littlel artist.
The day was sunny and warm and all of a sudden and out of the blue, Nikolche asked a question:
-Dad, is there a green squirrel?
- Where did this come from! – the father said surprised.
- Is there a blue squirrel anywhere?
- There’s not!
- And, is there a red one?
- No.
- A pink one?
- There’s no a pink one.
- Not even a white one?
- Not even a white one.
- Is there a blue squirrel? Is there?
- Come on, a blue squirrel?! We are talking about a squirrel, not an eggplant!
- I am just asking you politely...
- You are so little to ask such silly questions! – the father raised his voice. - Don’t you know the color of squirrels?!
-I know. It is brown, answered Nikolche.
- Well then, why are you asking such questions?
- Because I lost the brown coloring pencil somewhere, explained Nikolche – and I must color the squirrel I drew!
LITTLE BOOTS AT THE DOCTOR’S
A grandmother, with her glasses and slippers on, asked her little grandson:
- Do you want me to tell you a story?
- Yes I do, grandma!
- Grandma began telling her story:
- A pair of children’s boots was constantly silent while new and good. They went everywhere without saying a single word like “ah”, “oh” or “dear me”. They did not say anything whatsoever.
- And later? What happened? Did they speak up? - asked the little child.
- Once they opened their mouth they cried all the time: - We don’t like rain! We don’t like snow! We don’t like mud!
- Did they ever catch a cold? Did they ever get sick – the little grandson asked sadly.
- They got so sick they had to see their doctor - the grandmother said sadly.
- Who is their doctor? - the child asked even more excitedly.
- The shoemaker! – answered the grandmother smiling
ZLATKO’S CHOICE
Zlatko and his mother went to the shops.
-What do you want me to buy you, Zlatko? Do you want a fur jacket?
- No, mom. I want a toy.
- But, it is so cold now...
- It is OK, mom, the toy will warm me up.
- How come it will warm you up?!
- Well, this is how, mom. Buy me a curly teddy bear, a furry bear. I will be hugging it, and it will warm me up.
NIKOLCHE LIKES PEPPERS
When Nikolche shouts, protect your ear drums, please! This is how “weak” his voice is.
- Mom! I want...
- What will he ask now? - his mother was wandering and thinking of his totally impossible wishes. For example, once he asked for a stick long enough to scatter clouds, or for a submarine which could float under the ice of the river Vardar to help the frozen fish. But this time Nikolche’s wish was very normal.
- I want some bread and butter - he said and added – and a pepper.
His mother was surprised:
-And a pepper!?
- Are you going to give it to me or not?
- ] will give it to you. Don’t get angry right away...
- I do not have time to lose!
His mother immediately brought him a piece of bread and butter he asked for.
-Here is some bread and butter… And what kind of pepper do you want? A pickled or a dry one?
- Better a dry one.
- Not a hot one, right?
- Hot is OK...
- What is happening to this child? – his mother wandered. – He never wanted to taste a sweet pepper in his life, and now he does not mind a hot one? He must be very hungry… he has been playing on the snow a whole day...
Nikolche swallowed the bread in few pieces.
- What about the pepper? - his mother asked him wandering.
- What about it? - Nikolche answered, getting out. I need it for the snowman’s nose which Vein and I have made.
SLEDGE – EXPRESS
Nikolche’s father was pulling the sledge on the playground for almost an hour. Nikolche was sitting and shouting:
- Faster, dad! Faster!
The playground was flat; the sledge did not go by itself; Nikolche was commanding:
- Increase the speed!
His father was getting tired, but Nikolche wasn’t!
- Enough of this turtle ride. I want a deer ride...
Although already sweaty, the driver did not admit he was tired.
-Just a moment! We must get some fuel! - He found a handy excuse.
He stopped by a tree.
-Here is a gas station!
They filled it up.
The express-sledge made a few circles and stopped again.
- Wait, let’s take some fuel again!
He repeated this several times.
The passenger started complaining. The driver was calming him down:
- What can we do? We cannot do anything without fuel…!
Very soon the express-sledge started stopping at the tree after every circle.
Then Nikolche suggested:
-This fuel is no good, dad. It burns up too fast! Let’s go to a real gas station!
WARMING UP
Spring was coming and the days were perfect for taking walks.
While the mother and the father were resting on a green bench in the park after a long walk, Zarko started playing with a few children under a tree which had not turned green yet.
The coming of spring could be felt everywhere, as well as the presence of winter which had not taken the white clothing from the surrounding mountains yet.
After a while Zarko came back to them.
-Why did you come back, son?
- My hands are very cold.
What now? They did not have his gloves with them.
His mother took one of his hands and his father the other right away. They squeezed them very tightly and warmed them up both.
When Zarko understood this, he called out with excitement:
- Mom! Dad! Thank you! Your hands are the warmest gloves! They have warmed me up better than anything else!
Indeed, there is nowhere in the world better and warmer gloves than mom’s and dad’s hands.
IN THE RIGHT HOUR
As you know, there are no shops in villages such as flower shops as in towns. Meadows, forests and hills are the flower shops over there.
You do not know Borche, do you?
Let me introduce him to you as briefly as possible:
He is a smart and hardworking child. Each year he picks for his mother some flowers from a meadow or a field in the days of March.
This time, precisely on the 8 of March, returning home he surprisingly did not find any primroses, crocus or violets in bloom!
Nature comes late in the mountains, or Borche did go to the right places in the neighborhood?
He returned home with a heavy heart and empty hands. What else could he do?
Then, what a surprise, what a welcome he had under the eaves!
Some white petals were shimmering there!
Are there right words to describe this most beautiful thing?
This “pretty boy”, as his mother often called him, started talking to her loudly and cheerfully even at the door:
“Mom, have you seen the first snowdrop in the garden? It has bloomed just for you!
BELIEVE IT OR NOT
A strange bunch of guests were gathered at a forest party:
The brave rabbit.
The honest wolf.
The lazy ant.
The hardworking bumblebee.
The speedy turtle.
The clean pig.
The stupid fox.
The good snake.
Then, a fish that couldn’t swim; a nightingale who had an F in singing; a cat which did not like sausages; a snail who was a record breaking runner...
They gathered; they were chosen. A strange group, weren’t they?
When did they gather? -somebody might ask.
Well, you can guess - on first of April, on April Fool’s Day!
DO YOU KNOW?
The grass wants water; it doesn’t want little shoes walking on it.
The flowers wait for bees; they don’t wait for little fingers to pick them.
The trees want to grow up high; they do not want little hands to break them down.
The birds want to fly in the air and not be in cages.
The animals want meadows, mountains and forests; they don’t want to be shot at.
The streams, the rivers, and the lakes want to remain clear and unpolluted.
The streets and the yards want cleanliness, not garbage scattered everywhere.
Your homes, your houses, apartments and rooms want to be clean and tidy as your hands and faces, dear children.
Who should make this happen?
All of you, all of us!
Right?
WHAT SINGERS! HEY-HO!
Why do they praise the nightingale so much? – the owl protested. - I can sing as good as it can!
- I can sing like it! – yelled the pig.
- I can do it too! – the frog spoke.
One day, they were invited at a big forest party to show what they know. They stood in a row: the awl, the pig, and the frog. Microphones were put in front of them to be heard better.
The owl said: “Booo”!
The pig said: “Grrr”!
The frog: “Cre-cre! Cre-cre!”
What singers were they, hey ho-!
THERE WAS...
Once upon a time, there was somebody who was bad mannered called Let MeTell You.
He always interrupted others when speaking. He never stopped showing up uninvited.
One day he was silenced by two raised fingers.
THE SOAP AND THE HANDS
The soap was bothering the hands all the time:
-You, dirty ones! I wash you, I clean you. Shame on you! You cannot do anything without me.
Once when he fell down from the wash basin in the dirt, the hands lifted it up and washed it because it was all dirty.
WHO OWNS THE GRAPES?
The grapes in the vineyard outside the town were ripening.
The grape-picking time had came.
The thrush said briefly:
- I will pick the sweet grapes!
The raven croaked:
-Croak-croak! Not you, but me!
The crows cawed in one voice:
- We were guarding it. The grapes belong to us!
The magpie opened its beak wide:
-I will eat them all! Ham! Ham!
The sparrows started chirping:
-Chirp-chirp! Without these sweet grapes, we would not be alive!
The people came, and chased the intruders away.
Then, the local trees told the birds which flew around there:
-The grapes do not belong to you, but to those who planted the vineyard and worked on it for the whole year!
WHAT DID THE CUNNING FOX CHOOSE?
The cunning fox stopped in front of the hencoop.
It was very hungry.
But how can it outsmart the hens?
-Little hens, little housewives! Your guest is coming! – it started speaking in a sweet voice. – Come out and welcome me!
The hens recognized the fox’s voice.
- The guest is bringing you a treat: a full basket of wild strawberries. Oh, how heavy it is. Who will come and help me?
The hens were silent.
When the fox started making noises around the hencoop, the rooster answered:
- Do not call on them, godmother fox. They are not here…
- And where are they?
- They went to prepare something for you.
- What?
- They told me to ask you what you want to eat…? Let’s say, a roasted chicken? Will that do?
The fox stopped confused. Is it hearing this or it just seems so?
-Roasted? Boiled? Stewed? Fried? Smoked? How do you like it? - the rooster repeated.
-Roasted...
-Roasted on hot coals or ice?
- But… this fellow is only joking, the fox thought. The damned hunger pressed him and pushed its reason and cunningness aside.
-Fried would be fine… - it whispered modestly.
- And what should they serve it with? Fried potatoes or gravy? Pepper? Garlic? Hot pepper? Pick and tell!
- Yes, sure, sure. I only wish it were prepared sooner! – the fox suggested impatiently.
- Here, right away! Let me just call the waiter! – the rooster said and yelled loudly. – Hello, waiter Av-av! Come quick!
The dog Av-av heard it and when it understood the whole thing – it gathered the people from the neighboring houses. All of them came - some with sticks, some with whips, some with something else. They beat the fox up. They cooked its stew well.
- How is the roast? – the rooster asked laughing. – Is it tasty prepared with little gravy?
- I have had enough…I do not want anymore! – the fox screamed.
- Oh come on, have some more… You can take it! Staff yourself once and for all! – suggested the dog, leaving.
VASKA’S NEW CLOTHES
Vaska has lots of dresses in many colors. They are all new, clean and ironed.
She has to put on one.
Which one?
- I do not want this one...! I do not want that one...!
Vaska is tapping with her new shoes on and throwing one by one on the floor.
The dresses got angry.
They turned into old, crumpled rags in a second.
Well now, how do you like us? - they asked her.
Vaska blushed and disappeared from the room.
Her place was taken by another girl who did not have anything to wear.
-What pretty dresses! – she said. – I will take them home for mom to wash, mend and iron them, and then I will dress up!
And she left.
Then Vaska returned. She picked up her colorful, new, clean, and ironed dresses from the floor. She put one of them on, and went out for a walk with a smile.
THE END OF THE FIGHT
The spring flowers – the hellebore and the crocus started a fight over who should bloom first.
- I must be first! – said the hellebore, turning green with rage.
- Well, not you, but I! - the crocus said, running yellow with anger.
And while the hellebore and the crocus were fighting and fighting, the snowdrop had already spread its blooming white dress.
Everybody rejoiced at it and admired it!
DRAMATIZATIONS (PLAYS AND PLAYLETS)
INTRODUCTION
(Two kids with dirty hands pass by a soap bar in a wrapping).
SOAP: (Calling them) Hey, you!
JONCHE: Is someone calling us?
DANCHO: Who’s that?
SOAP: It is me.
JONCHE: Who are you?
DANCHO: We do not know you.
JONCHE: How strangely dressed it is! In a paper coat?!
DANCHO: Something is written on it!
SOAP: Read me and you’ll know everything about me.
JONCHE: But we can’t read.
DANCHO: We don’t go to school; we go to kindergarten.
SOAP: Aha! You are in kindergarten! Then, it is a special pleasure to meet you!
JONCHE: I am Jonche.
DANCHO: I am Dancho.
SOAP: I am Soapy. Let’s shake hands. Let’s be friends!
(Jonche and Dancho offer their hands.)
SOAP: (Noticing how dirty their hands are, it withdraws its hand right away). Wow?!
JONCHE: Why did you withdraw your hand?
DANCHO: Don’t you want to shake hands with us?
SOAP: I don’t wanna.
JONCHE: Why?
SOAP: Because your hands are so dirty.
DANCHO: (In a sad voice) So what shall we do? Who will help us clean up?
SOAP: If that’s so and you still want me to be friends, I will help you.
JONCHE AND DANCHO: (Happy) Hurray!
SOAP: First, help me get undressed, please.
(Jonche and Dancho took off the paper from the soap).
SOAP: There, now. Let’s go straight to the bathroom.
JONCHE: I’ll go first!
DACHO: No, I’ll go first!
SOAP: One at the time, please. Do not push each other!
JONCHE: Let’s hold hands firm.
DANCHO: Can we do that, Soapy?
SOAPY: Sure, we can. It is the only way our friendship will run like the water from the tap!
(Jonche and Dancho open the tap and are washing their hands carefully with the soap).
CHILD RECITING: Hank’s hands are clean, Frank’s face is clean.
Conrad’s conscience’s clean. It is a nice scene.
But you know what’s best? You know what I mean?
One should keep all of them clean.
WHO?
MOTHER: The soup is ready. Here is a plate and a little spoon. Come on, dear! Who do you want to feed you? Mommy?
CHILD: No
FATHER: Daddy?
CHILD: No.
BRO: Bro?
CHILD: No.
GRADMA: Grandma?
CHILD: No.
GRANDPA: Grandpa?
CHILD: No.
MOTHER: Not mommy…not daddy, not bro, not grandma, not grandpa!? Who do you want to feed you then, daughter? Tell mommy!
CHILD: No one, mommy. I want to feed myself!
ABOUT FRUIT, FALL AND… SOMETHING ELSE
(Fruit garden in fall).
I CHILD: How pretty apples are in fall! Red, juicy, delicious…
II CHILD: Pears too! M-m-m-m!
I CHILD: Plums, oh! The purple ones…
II CHILD: Mom always makes plum marmalade!
I CHILD: I like quinces very much. They are ripe in fall.
II CHILD: Grandpa and grandma have a vineyard. Every fall we go to see them at grape picking time. Grapes, grapes, full baskets!
I CHILD: Do you know what I pick when I go to grandma and grandpa in the country? Forest fruits. Raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, huckleberries…
II CHILD: I have had forest fruit juice. They are all really wonderful.
I CHILD: We get all this from fall!
III CHILD: (He has been silent and listening all the time. Now all of a sudden joins the talk). Wait, I have something to say! You have been praising fall and its fruits so much, but you forget that there is something which is ready in spring and you cannot find in fall.
I CHILD: I know what - strawberries.
III CHILD: And cherries.
II CHILD: If that is so, there are cherries during summer too. And sour cherries.
III CHILD: Apricots and peaches and grapes, early apples too.
I CHILD: Watermelons and melons
II CHILD: But there are watermelons and melons during fall too, even too many. You can see huge piles of them in the markets!
I CHILD: Fall gives us peaches too and some other fruits which we find in summer, but it is the only one which gives us medlars, chestnuts, hazelnuts.
III CHILD: I can see you are in favor of fall and that’s that. But it is not right. We totally forgot winter!
II CHILD: Fruits in winter! I have not heard this one before! How come?
III CHILD: There are fruits from the jars of preserves and other sweets made from them. There are fruits from freezers and dried fruits. (They are laughing loudly and clapping)
ALL: You give us so many fruits.
Where are your mighty roots?
Oh, honey-winged fall,
you are sweet and golden above all!
A STORY WITH NUMBERS
(The playlet is intended as a game in which each child introduces the next number in the story).
I CHILD: One day,
II CHILD: in Hedgehog’s tailor shop at number two,
III CHILD: hidden among three stones
IV CHILD: and four dogwood bushes,
V CHILD: someone knocked five times on the door: tap – tap – tap – tap – tap!
VI CHILD: The spotted, wild Duck Quack entered and was as loud as six ducks quacks altogether;
VII CHILD: it was dressed up in feathers of seven colors.
VIII CHILD: It ordered eight fox fur coats for its little ducklings.
IX CHILD: Instead of money, it left nine heavy sighs,
X CHILD: and went home on foot, making ten curves left-right, straight, back and forth.
XI CHILD: And when eleven days and nights passed by since the order,
I CHILD: at twelve o’clock, sharp noon, the Duck came. And what did it see? There was nothing!
II CHILD: Around Hedgehog’s shop the following was written at thirteen places:
III CHILD: The shop is locked with fourteen locks because we do not having fabrics to sew!
IV CHILD: Oh, come on now; be sensible, she was thinking and thinking what to do for full fifteen days without sleep.
V CHILD: And at the day of the next number, sixteen, right?
VI CHILD: Duck-Quak together with its seventeen friends, colorful, grey, white ducks-quacks and ducklings
VII CHILD: set off on a long journey passing eighteen mountains,
VIII CHILD: nineteen forests,
IX CHILD: twenty rivers,
X CHILD: bridges…towns…villages…
XI CHILD: Say the number! How many bridges, towns, villages? What number follows twenty?
X CHILD: (Shrugging) I can’t remember.
I CHILD: Now our chain is broken; our counting has been stopped; our game ends.
II CHILD: (Towards the audience) But if you, little friends, can count, continue the game on your own!
III CHILD: Let each of you learn a new number, and a new one without end!
CHILD RECITING: Since Vesna can count
from one to ten,
it will be a piece of cake
every now and again!
MAGIC COLORING PENCILS IN DILIGENT HANDS
SIMONA: Which of your coloring pens is most used up, Ana?
ANA: The blue one, Simona.
SIMONA: Why the blue one?
ANA: Why!? Because I use it for drawing and coloring the largest things.
SIMONA: Are violets really largest things?
ANA: What about rivers, lakes and seas? What about the sky? How much blue I need for them!
SIMONA: It really takes a lot to fill up a whole sea.
ANA: Not to mention the blue and the wide sky.
SIMONA: I most often draw meadows, grass and trees. This is why my most used up coloring pencil is the green one.
ZLATKO: It is my yellow. I usually have a sun in all my drawings.
SIMONA: (Thinking) How interesting!
ZLATKO: (Thinking that this remark was addressed to him) Why interesting? It is just the sun!
SIMONA: It’s not that. I am thinking about something else. Imagine: how many suns come out of one little coloring pencil!?
ANA: They are numberless!
SIMONA: How many rivers, lakes and seas flow out form one little blue coloring pencil!?
ZLATKO: How much grass and how many trees grow out of a green one!
ANA: How many lambs are born out of a white coloring pencil!
SIMONA: And how many rabbits of a grey one!
ZLATKO: And how many black bears come out of a black coloring pencil! (Imitating a bear ready to attack with its claws, holding a black coloring pencil in his hands) Booooo!
ANA: This is incredible! How much simple coloring pencils can do!
SIMONA: Our coloring pencils must be magic!
ZLATKO: Shall we tell our Teacher?
ANA: Yes, let’s!
SIMONA: (Loudly). Teacher, our coloring pencils are magic! They can do anything!
TEACHER: Yes, dears, they are magic.
(The children are clapping their hands).
TEACHER: But, your hands are magic too, because without them the coloring pencils could not do anything, Anything at all!
CHILD RECITING: They are so magic,
they are really magic, you know!
Little kids’ hands
are magic, hey-ho!
WHOSE IS THE CHAIR?
(Playroom. At the beginning of the scene, the teacher is not present).
ILE: (Approaching angrily). Hey, Mile, you are sitting on my chair!
MILE: Your chair!? (Standing up).
ILE: Yes, mine!
MILE: How do you know it is yours?
ILE: I can tell.
MILE: How can you tell?
ILE: Because it is wooden.
MILE: Well, mine is wooden too! What else?
ILE: What else?
MILE: How else can you tell it is your chair? Is it because it is used for sitting?
ILE: Yes, that too.
MILE: Mine is used for sitting too. We have beds to lie down…
ILE: I can tell because it is small.
MILE: Mine is small too. They are all small. Look!
ILE: By its color too. It is yellow.
MILE: Mine is yellow too.
ILE: I can tell, I can tell…because it is mine!
(Both children are holding the chair pulling it towards each other).
MILE: It is mine too!
ILE: No, it is not. It is mine!
MILE: No, it is mine!
ILE: No. It is mine!
SIMONA: Hey, wait a minute, dear friends! Do not fight. There are two more chairs over here. They are empty.
ILE and MILE: Empty?!
SIMONA: Empty, new, wooden, small and yellow.
(Ile and Mile are running towards the chairs)
ILE: (Takes one) This is mine!
MILE: (Takes another). This is mine!
(The moment they return to their little tables, the teacher shows up. The chair Mile and Ile were fighting for, is in the middle of the playroom and the teacher has sensed what could have happened).
Whose chair is this, children?
(Everyone is silent and looking at Mile and Ile).
THE TEACHER: Let’s see, who does not have a chair. Zivko, Simona, Maria, Marko, Gorjan, Zlatko, Mimoza, Ana, Ivan, Kate, Stephan, Veni, Ile, Mile - all have chairs…
ALLTOGETHER: We all do, teacher!
TEACHER: So, there is an extra chair? It is no one’s! Well then, we shall punish it today. Let it stand empty, because it has just ran up here and started fighting!
CHILD RECITING: There are a many stories
on this theme!
Do not get angry, don’t blow steam.
No use in angry grrr-grrr-grrr-ing!
So, stop, stop worrying.
WINTER JOKE
GRANDMA: What do we wear in winter?
I GRANDSON: A little fur coat.
II GRANDSON: Little boots.
III GRANDSON: Thick soaks on our feet.
I GRANDSON: A shawl around our neck.
II GRANDOSN: A hat on our head.
III GRANDOSN: Gloves on our hands.
GRANDMOTHER: What else do we wear in winter?
I GRANDSON: We wear our red noses too!
(All laughing)
I Grandson: Yes, it is true, don’t laugh! In winter your noses often get red from cold and wind, don’t they?
II and III GRANDSONS: It is true!
GRANDMA: Well, since it is so, wear them in good health!
I KNOW…
MARKO: We all know what day is today.
MARIJA: The first of April or April Fools’ Day.
SIMONA: Well, let’s make jokes too. Let’ hear the funniest, the most incredible, the strangest thing…
ZLATKO: I can tell you something like this: I know a plate that has never eaten soup. Others always ate it.
IGOR: I know a soap that has never washed its hands.
ILCHO: I know a beautiful but envious flower that envies the biggest trash.
ANA: I know a computer which can tells its age by counting its fingers.
VERCHE: I know a child who always wakes up when he goes to bed.
BORKA: I know a tongue twister so fast that nobody can see or hear it.
VESNA: I know a song that does not have a beginning or an end.
ZARKO: I know a joke which will make you laugh until the end of your life.
PHILIP: I can’t tell you anything funny this moment.
MARKO: Why?
PHILIP: I remembered something very sad.
MARKO: Tell us that at least.
PHILIP: Imagine! The April Fools’ Day, the First of April, has never laughed itself! We are the ones who laugh…
MARKO: Oh, poor April Fools’ Day! Poor day! Pity those who cannot or does not want to laugh!
CHILD RECITING: April the Third, the other day,
a word of honor gave:
to arrive second on the First of April day.
Oh, that is very brave!
THE FLOWERS AND THE SUN
THE SUN: Little good dogwood, a herald of spring! Who gave yellow color to your flowers?
TRH DOGWOOD: You gave it to me, dear sun, who else?
THE SUN: Crocus, crocus flower, who gave you yellow color?
THE CROCUS: You gave it to me, my sun!
THE SUN: And you mimosa?
THE MIMOSA: Again, you little sun of ours!
THE SUN: Primrose, primrose, who gave you yellow color?
THE PRIMROSE: You gave it to me, my beautiful sun!
THE SUN: Narcissus, narcissus, why are you so yellow?
THE NARCISSUS: To look like you, dear sun!
TH SUN: Dandelion, dandelion, who gave you yellow color?
THE DANDALION: You gave it to me, my dear little sun! You!
THE SUN: Sunflower, sunflower, who gave you yellow color?
THE SUNFLOWER: It is you, my sun. You, dear sun.
THE FLOWERS: Sun, sun, who gave you yellow color?
THE SUN: You did all, my pretty flowers!
THE CHICS AND THE HEN
I CHICK: Imagine, my little brothers and sisters!
I was wandering alone
through my house.
All of a sudden I saw
a full basket of eggs
in red color!
II AND III CHICKS: It is not possible! Not possible!
I CHICK: Red as fire,
I tell you!
As poppies! By my word!
II and III CHICKS: It is not possible! It is not possible!
IV CHICK: I am with them on this!
Aren’t all eggs white,
the ones that our mother
and her sister-hens lay!
V CHICK: We are not naïve too:
We are hatched from white eggs!
II CHICK: And those, red ones in the basket,
are maybe quail eggs?
III CHICK: Or they might have been brought here by a rocket
from another planet?
I CHICK: Here comes mommy.
Let’s ask her.
V CHICK: Let’s stop guessing
and act silly.
THE HEN: (Coming) What is this? Why are you gathered?
Where are you going?
Are you just talking?
I CHICK: We are puzzled by those red eggs,
that are in the basket!?
II CHICK: Who laid them, mom, in that color?
HEN: (Laughing). Is that what bothers you?!
Now I will tell you what it means!
III CHICK: What kind of secret do they hide?
We cannot guess!
HEN: There is no secret, the reason is one:
the eggs were painted for the holiday
by our hardworking housewife.
V CHICK: Then, I suggest, we make a decision:
when we grow up
we want to lay every day
red eggs!
HEN: Well, that cannot be, my chicks!
Every day is not an Easter holiday!
AT THE WEEKEND
I CHILD: I finished the pretzels…
II CHILD: I finished the hard candy…
III CHILD: I did the bag of “SMOKI” flips.
IV CHILD: Have you eaten the bag?!
III CHILD: Stop kidding me. Here it is – empty.
V CHILD: I have an empty box of “Euro-cream” spread!
VI CHILD: Me too, I have an empty juice carton!
VII CHILD: I have an empty yogurt cap.
IV CHILD: And what are we going to do with them?
I CHILD: Who shall we give them to?
II CHILD: Where shall we throw them?
II CHLD: In the garbage cans?
V CHILD: But there are not such things here.
VI CHILD: Then, shell we throw them wherever we want?
IV CHILD: Oh, how prettier nature would then be!
VII CHILD: No, friends, that is not a solution! No way!
I CHILD: It will be shame on all of us.
II CHILD: Well, what shall we do with them, then?
III CHILD: Let’s take them home?
IV CHILD: Yes, we could do that. Why not? They are not heavy when empty.
V CILD: We shall carry them to the point where there are trash bins. Then, it is easy…
VII: Dad told me that in some countries people burry this kind of trash in the ground after their picnics.
IV Child: That is good, too, but we do not have anything to dig with…
III CHILD: Then, shall we take them back..?
I CHILD: And throw them right in the garbage cans’ mouths!
II CHLD: They “eat” and take as treat little boxes, bags and paper…
III CHILD: Am-am-am! They will swallow them all!
IV CHILD: The bigger ones… the waste containers are even hungrier and more dangerous.
V CHILD: Con-tai-ners... It is a bit hard to remember this word.
IV CHILD: Maybe you don’t have to remember the word, but you have to remember what’s their use!
ALLTOGETHER: After the picnic,
everything must be cleaned.
You should be keen
to leave the field and the hillock
as they were first seen!
A GARDEN CONTEST
PIGEON: Did you hear about the contest that took place in our garden?
SPARROW: What contest?
PIGEON: The contest in rope pulling.
SPARROW: Between whom?
PIGEON: Between the vegetables and the fruits.
SPARROW: Between the vegetables and the fruits?!
PIGEON : Yes.
SPARROW: It was a very interesting competition, really!
PIGEON : Very, very interesting...
SPARROW: I want to know who competed on the vegetable side?
PIGEON: The tomato, the pepper, the potato, the cabbage, the garlic, the onion, the beans, the peas,
the spinach, the carrots and the lettuce.
SPARROW: Which ones took part on the fruit side?
PIGEON: The strawberry, the cherry, the apricot, the peach, the apple, the pear, the plum, the watermelon, the
melon, the grapes and the quince.
SPARROW: And who won? Which team?
PIGEON: Both teams won.
SPARROW: Both teams?
PIGEON: Both were strong, tough and muscular...
SPARROW: So, the result was a tie?
PIGEON: Yes, and every child who likes vegetables and fruits and eats plenty of them will become just like them!
SIMONA’S COLORING BOOK
(Returning from work, Mother has brought a coloring book for her little daughter and is giving it to her).
MOTHER: Here we go, honey!
CHILD: Oh, what a nice coloring book!
MOTHER: You like it, don’t you?
CHILD: How shall I thank you, mom!
MOTHER: You can start by coloring it from the beginning to the end.
CHILD: I’ll start right away, Mom. But I do not know which colors to use?
MOTHER: Use all the colors… It depends on what you are coloring…
CHILD: Red color is for poppy.
MOTHER: Green color is for holly.
CHILD: Green color is for the grass in May.
MOTHER: Yellow color is for the sunflower, the primrose and the gorse.
CHILD: Yellow like the sun.
MOTHER: Blue color is for the violet, the blue squill, the hyacinth.
CHILD: Blue like the river and the sky.
MOTHER: White color is for the daisy, the snowdrop, and the jasmine.
CHILD: White like snow.
MOTHER: Black color is for the coal.
CHILD: Black like my pencil.
MOTHER: Brown color is for coffee.
CHILD: Brown like chocolate.
MOTHER: Orange color for the marigold and the crocus.
CHILD: Orange like an orange.
MOTHER: Grey color is for ash.
CHILD: Grey like grey clouds...
MOTHER: So, is everything clear now?
CHILD: Yes, I am looking forward to start coloring. I am beginning, mom! (She takes the yellow and the red coloring pencils and begins to color).
MOTHER: What will you begin with?
CHILD: With the sun and a poppy.
MOTHER: Why with them?
CHILD: So that the sun shines forever and the poppy is a present for you, mom!
CHILD RECITING: Labor should be appreciated
and loved, I demand.
To understand the value of a thing,
make it with your own hand.

Translation education
PhD - UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA
Experience
Years of experience: 37. Registered at ProZ.com: Jul 2018.
My experience as an interpreter/translator began in Melbourne Australia as an on-call translator/interpreter for many agencies. It continued in the Office of the President of the Macedonian Parliament where I served as a full time translator and interpreter for four years. I also worked as a full time legal translator and interpreter for the USAID sponsored project, Court Modernization Macedonia. I have more than 10 years of active experience as a translator/interpreter since all the jobs listed in my CV involved translation and interpreting at various degrees. Besides translating and interpreting, I have often been involved in other administrative duties related to the corresponding projects/programs. Also, I am a court certified translator. Besides numerous technical and legal translations, I have also translated several books and short stories in magazines and journals. My preference are literary translations and humanitites.
