English to Portuguese: Fight against Racism & Discrimination - A Luta contra o Racismo & a Discriminação General field: Social Sciences
Source text - English While important advancements have been achieved in many areas, societies are still plagued by discrimination, racism and inequalities.
None of the multifaceted and complex challenges of our times can be tackled effectively without inclusion.
This is the resounding message of Agenda 2030 and its pledge to “Leave no one behind”.
The world is more and more interconnected, but it does not mean that individuals and societies really live together – as reveal the exclusions suffered by millions of poor, women, youth, migrants and disenfranchised minorities.
In our turbulent international globalized landscape, a central message must be heralded: peace is more than the absence of war, it is living together with our differences – of sex, race, language, religion or culture – while furthering universal respect for justice and human rights on which such coexistence depends.
Peace is a choice to be made on each situation, an everyday life decision to engage in sincere dialogue with other individuals and communities.
The second edition of the Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination was held in Mexico City on 28 and 29 November 2022.
It centered around the transversal theme of "Post-Covid Recovery" to directly address the adverse impact that racism, discrimination and complexities have had on the most vulnerable populations.
This edition provided the basis to take stock on where we are in the fight against racism. It also provided a platform to relevant actors in the public, private and civil society arena that are championing effective strategies against racism and discrimination.
Now is the moment to catalyze action on prioritizing the fight against racism on the international agenda.
The agenda covered various topics such as building the UNESCO Roadmap against racism and discrimination, setting up effective frameworks, rights of women, adolescents and girls, discrimination towards people of African descent and of Asian origin, the role of cities and civic space, the link with the artistic and academic communities, discrimination in artificial intelligence, and resource mobilization.
