Hello and welcome! My name is Michael Jelnov. I am a professional certified English-Russian freelance translator with a University degree in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication and many years of everyday translation experience. I am a native speaker of Russian.

What I offer

My source language is English and my target language is Russian. I offer translation, editing, and proofreading, as well as translation memory and glossary creation and maintenance. I use SDL Trados Studio and other state of the art Computer Aided Translation software tools. Other services include cultural consulting (brand names cultural review, copy adaptation, etc.) and translation quality assessment. I work with wide range of materials: from business letters, legal contracts and marketing collaterals to technical specifications, maintenance manuals, safety instructions and user's guides, websites and software user interfaces.

I can deliver the following benefits to you and your business:

  • Quality: I acquired a Master of Arts degree in Linguistics and Intercultural Communication and was officially qualified with an appropriate diploma as a translator by one of the largest and well-known universities in Russia. Since then, I have gained a vast practical experience during many years of working on diverse translation and related projects pertaining to very different fields. In my work I adhere to industry standard terminology, such as SAP or Microsoft glossaries, as well as to applicable Russian Government Standards (GOSTs) and generally accepted authoring and publishing principles. Also, I constantly continue my self-education and research in the non-linguistic subject matter areas I work in. Combining these factors to your advantage, I can deliver a very reliable and consistent quality of my services.

  • Cost and time effectiveness: My rates are generally in line with those charged by experienced professional translators on the international market. While my rates are certainly not the lowest, by entrusting projects to me my clients ultimately pay less money and spend less time to get the work done because they can avoid costly and time consuming processes of correcting errors or finding another service provider to redo everything from scratch.

  • Confidentiality: The materials that need to be translated can often contain very sensitive information. I treat my clients’ confidentiality with the utmost care and never disclose either their confidential information or their identification details to any third parties without their consent (except as required by law).

  • Data safety and security: In today’s world most of the business information is transmitted internationally via the Internet, by email in particular. I don’t rely on any free email or file storage services to receive and, most importantly, to store my clients’ content and instructions. Neither do I use any of the so called cloud (external server based) tools to do my work except when explicitly requested by a client. All of my email and all the files I work on are always stored locally on my computers and regularly backed up to at least one external storage device for easy recovery. This approach prevents irreparable physical data damage and keeps the information away from unauthorized eyes.

  • Responsiveness: For me translation is a full-time professional occupation and not an odd-job. In addition to the benefits mentioned above, this means I can respond to your inquiries and requests in a timely manner during regular working hours. I constantly monitor my inbox.

  • Convenient payment options: You can pay for my services using bank transfer or electronic payment systems. I am officially registered as an individual entrepreneur (индивидуальный предприниматель, sole trader) and can issue a formal invoice.

Where to start

The best way to start our mutually beneficial cooperation is to send me an email describing your needs and requirements, preferably attaching some or all of the content you would like me to work on. Then I will be able to quote a price, either per unit or per hour, and we will discuss further steps and conditions.

Please contact me for any additional information or a free quote for your project.
