Turkish to English: Anakronizm General field: Art/Literary Detailed field: Poetry & Literature
Translation - English Anachronism, which includes the meaning of the probability of standing in error when judging the historical events, is the struggle to understand any cases by separating them from their own time dimension and placing them into a different historicity, where it is figured out. After the French Revolution, classical Turkish literature has been negatively affected by the nationalist movements and their ethnic-centered, discriminative views directed towards languages and literature. This literature was blamed to not be national from the conjuncture of a just founded nation-state or was questioned if it included the conscious reactions brought by nationalist reflexes and then a historical deepness was tried to be added to the fundamentals of the national consciousness. The concepts of “Türkî-i basit and mahallîleşme (localization)” first introduced by Fuad Köprülü in recent years has been associated with these efforts. While the claims of Köprülü have been continued by researchers (and while also these concepts are/were evaluated by some artists as a reactional movement brought by national consciousness), objections have been to these claims on having anachronic approaches. It has now become more of an issue that the subject is presented in a collective way in order to both have the command of a chronological plane of the studies on these previously-mentioned concepts which are claimed whether to be movements or not and to allow clearer evaluations on the subject to be carried out.In this article, which emerges from the opinion of the fact that both claims have weak sides when they are grounded, the claims on the assumption that these concepts cannot constitute a movement using today’s understanding are tried to be based on.
