English to Arabic: Supercomputer system Detailed field: IT (Information Technology)
Source text - English We have just received an order from the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) for a new supercomputer system which will be the most powerful in Japan when it goes online in 2010: at its heart – 2.157 of our PRIMERGY BX900 blades!
The JAEA is planning to use the supercomputer in atomic energy research, for example in nuclear fusion simulation. The system will be based on a Linux cluster serving as the core and it will be employing our high-end PRIMERGY BX900 blade servers equipped with Intel® Xeon® X5570 processors (2.93GHz), for a total of 2,157 nodes and as many as 4,314 CPUs. This gives the core system a theoretical peak performance of an incredible 200 teraflops (teraflop = one trillion floating-point operations per second), making it the fastest supercomputer system in Japan. Such capacities are the basis for the system to play an important role in ensuring the safe use of atomic energy.
“Supercomputers are indispensible for the kind of scientific computations required in nuclear energy research and development,” said Toshio Hirayama, Director of the Center for Computational Science and e-Systems, and Executive Officer of the JAEA. “For that reason, I’m confident that the new supercomputer system will be fully utilized. In addition, since some of the features of this system will be the technological basis for the Next-Generation Supercomputer project in Japan, this new system will help us develop codes for the Next-Generation Supercomputer expected to begin operation in 2012.”
With its order, the JAEA demonstrates its trust in our company as one of the leading IT infrastructure providers in the world, able to build not only high performance systems but also to cope with high security challenges. It will also be an important reference for the global success of our 500k program – for which PRIMERGY BX900 with its world-class scalability as well as energy efficiency is one of the cornerstones. In addition to its use in supercomputers, the PRIMERGY BX900 is well-suited for a wide range of applications, including in mission-critical corporate computing systems and server consolidation projects.
“This order is a proof point for the superiority of our PRIMERGY BX900 blade server and underpins its status as an industry leader among x86 servers – eclipsing the performance of competing systems,” said our President & CEO Kai Flore. “As we have been assigned the global lead for Fujitsu’s x86 servers and the 500k program, we can be especially proud of this success – it brilliantly showcases our employees’ skills and capabilities in research and development of industry standard servers. I need not tell you that these are exactly the kind references that highlight our reputation as a global IT leader – bringing us a considerable step closer to the goal of our 500k program.”

English to Arabic: How to fit 300 DVDs on one disc General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Media / Multimedia
Source text - English A new optical recording method could pave the way for data discs with 300 times the storage capacity of standard DVDs, Nature journal reports.
The researchers say this could see a whopping 1.6 terabytes of information fit on a DVD-sized disc.
They describe their method as "five-dimensional" optical recording and say it could be commercialised.
The technique employs nanometre-scale particles of gold as a recording medium.
Researchers at Swinburne University of Technology in Australia have exploited the particular properties of these gold "nano-rods" by manipulating the light pointed at them.
The team members described what they did as adding three "dimensions" to the two spatial dimensions that DVD and CD discs already have.
They say they were able to introduce a spectral - or colour - dimension and a polarisation dimension, as well as recording information in 10 layers of the nano-rod films, adding a third spatial dimension.
The scientists used the nanoparticles to record information in a range of different colour wavelengths on the same physical disc location. This is a major improvement over traditional DVDs, which are recorded in a single colour wavelength with a laser.
Also, the amount of incoming laser light absorbed by the nanoparticles depends on its polarisation. This allowed the researchers to record different layers of information at different angles.
The researchers thus refer to the approach as 5-D recording. Previous research has demonstrated recording techniques based on colour or polarisation, but this is the first work that shows the integration of both.

Source text - Arabic
Translation - English The Language Ability
Arabic Language has a complete system in structure and meaning. This completeness makes Arabic language superior to other languages and therefore it needs a great deal of attention when it is taught to non-speakers so that the trainees may not be discouraged by those carefully systemized structures.
The trainee at a T.G.G. center acquires language abilities step by step practically in the same way as an Arab child gains different language abilities when it starts talking.
We have adopted this concept as a solution to the difficulties that non-speakers of Arabic encounter when they learn Arabic. They can carefully enter in depth until they excel in it and develop a feel of its beauty.
Thereupon, three stages have been considered and observed in explaining and exposing the various language skills:
The beginners stage (preliminary stage).
The intermediate stage.
The advanced stage.
The Beginners Stage:
At this stage, we suppose that the students are new to the Arabic language. The language is probably strange to them and they don't know anything even the shapes of Arabic letters. To them, these letters are like Chinese or Indian letters to us.
At this stage we do the following:
1. We associate the letters’ shapes with its pronounced sounds.
2. We show the letter's shapes in all its different positions.
3. We expand the trainees' vocabulary and associate the words directly with their illustrations.
4. We train the learners to analyze and form words.
5. We train the learners to recognize the tone of Arabic and to recognize the letter by listening.
This stage starts at the beginning of the syllabus and finishes at the end of course No.8. It normally requires 100 – 120 work hours for an average student.
From the students' viewpoint, they see that they have got benefit of the following:
1. Approximately 1500 Arabic vocabulary items, diversified on 30 of daily life environments.
2. Simple knowledge of Arabic sentence structure.
3. The Arabic letter shape, how to write and some basic rules of writing.
4. The shape of figures adopted in the Arab world.
The Intermediate Stage:
At this stage, the students feel that Arabic has become familiar to them and that they can manage in situations requiring simple conversations. They also feel that they are able to recognize Arabic writing and satisfactorily analyze written and spoken sentences. At this stage, we also take them on a long and enjoyable journey, moving form one flower to another, making them familiar with various situations. They are allowed to hear correct sentences and structures while at the same time asking them to distinguish between correct and incorrect sentences. Thus, we help them to acquire a strong sense of the language. The students get accustomed to correct sentences and good pronunciation of Arabic phonetics and intonation.
This stage starts with the beginning of course No.9 and finishes with the end of course No.20. It normally requires 250 – 275 work hours for an average student.
From the students' viewpoint, they see that they have acquired the following language skills:
1. They feel that they have become good speakers of standard Arabic and can communicate very well with Arabs whatever their dialects and accents.
2. They possessed good skills in writing and in written expression.
3. They have acquired reading and oral expression skills in various aspects of daily life.
4. They have become able to detect wrong sentence structures and that they can correct them.
5. They have no psychological barriers in using Arabic in their dialogs.
The Advanced Stage:
When students reach this stage, they find themselves wanting to go more deeply in the language, feel its system and excel in its rules. They wander in the fields of prose and poetry.
This stage starts with the beginning of course No.21 and finishes with the end of course No.35. It normally requires 325 – 375 work hours for an average student.
From the students' viewpoint, they see that they have graduated from the last course to set out in the various aspects of life, skillfully speaking and hearing the language. They can read and write the language professionally. They may be able to use the language better than some Arabs and may continue their study in Arabic universities as if they were native speakers of Arabic.
