I have a translation of a Word document (operator's manual) with imbedded coded text which creates references and connects certain parts of the document to each other. This text in one caption looks like this:

Hi Konstantine:
The code that you see (e.g., "{REF _Ref431886517 h}") provides a cross reference to some other part of the document. When you translate that other part of the document, the cross reference will show your translation also where the code is. (You won't be able to translate it as normal text: you will have to activate the cross reference and edit it there).
Check MS Word index for "Cross reference", for a more detailed explanation.

Problem solved. Thanks.

Thanks a lot for your input. Apparently, I had difficulties because I don't know how to translated a crossreferenced text with Trados. It gave me all kind of strange formatting and I tried to cut and paste to fix the problem. However, when I just typed in the Russian text over the original English, the crossreference worked well.
Thanks, again. Konstantine.
