I met with this error before.
What is the unclean file? TagEditor?

Possible causes:
1. Bad source text e.g. prohibited markings, trace changes.
2. Source text is used by the other program.

My action:
1. To eliminate bad markings, save source as text (e.g. using Notepad). And recreate source text again (e.g. *.doc, *.html, *.xml)
2. Translate
3. Clean the file.

Cheers,
Soonthon L.

error while writing breaks Jul 1, 2008

Hello Jacques,

This error sounds like there is a problem with page brakes or section brakes (or the section brake character).

Just open the source file and replace - using the find/replace option -page brakes lets say with ">" and section brakes with "", "

Hello All,

This error usually occurs when a Word document contains one or more section breaks which are not preceded by a paragraph end mark. Section breaks without paragraph end marks are not supported by the Word-TRADOStag (TTX) filter provided by TagEditor.

There is an article in the SDL Knowledge Base which should resolve your issue. Please follow this link:

You can also try running thru Word 2007 Sep 17, 2009

I had this problem, specifically this:

(-2147467259): Error while writing document.
File skipped!

I tried the SDL Support page (above) but no dice.

So I then did the following:

- Loaded the files (thank the stars only 7) into Word 2007, converted to DOCX
- Re-ran the files thru TRADOS (TTX workflow)
- Re-imported into DVX, checked all was OK translation-wise (astonishingly only one pair needed fixing)
- Exported

- Cleaned-up with TRADOS
- Loaded back into Word 2007, checked layout and saved back to 2003

A little extra work, but there you are.
