Concerning the involvement of a telecoms operator in a partnership to develop high speed internet access within a region:
"Nous travaillons déjà ensemble pour l'effacement
des réseaux téléphoniques, pour le déploiement
de l'internet haut débit en optimisant les
investissements dans les réseaux locaux, ainsi
que sur le développement des usages innovants
liés aux technologies de l'information."
I haven't come across this use of "effacement" before and would be grateful for any suggestions.

I understand that they are working towards the removal or progressive reduction of the phone network.(I think it is just poor French. It should say 'à' l'effacement etc. They are not working 'for' it (but rather against it!).
