See second point down. As I understand it, DGT here stands for 'Departement des grands travaux' - unless someone can correct me? If it is as I suggest, would it be something like 'Large Projects department' or is there a better term? This is taken from a document about a presentation by a large French brewer on the proposed re-organization of its departments (and amalgamation with another brewery) in order to respond to declining beer sales.

I'd seriously think that the D is for Direction - the management.
The company I work for uses 'pôle' meaning sector or service within it's large group, ie:
pôle Construction
pôle FM
I presume that here it is sector / service / deparment....
I agree with smart's answer, although I'd put it the other way round: Major Projects Department.

If you go back into your text you will see what I have put forward:

Although are you sure that this is 'grands travaux' ? and not .....Technique or something else?

I think this sounds slightly better than what you suggested. My problem would be the pôle which does not really make sense in English when translated by pole....

A few random points that occur to me:
a) The D in DGT is more than likely going to be Direction, as julie said. Which would usually (IMO) be a "department", so it makes no difference relative to your original idea. The vagaries of Fr org structures are many and varied, often obscure to the outsider.
b) note that your "pôle DGT" sits *within* the supply chain dept. Ergo, whatever it represents is likely to be a sub-set of supply chain activity (which, IMHO, makes grands travaux a bit unlikely). A "direction" within a "direction" is not unheard of, so this reinforces that idea.
c) given this, I can think of direction de gestion de transports as one option.
d) I would suggest "pôle" as "centre", faute de mieux and pending finding out what DGT actually is.
